Indeed.

Part of the problem is that posters like @Ponteland Mackem and @Voice of fair play didn't actually contribute to your SAFC based thread ;)

I didn't but I didn't think I could add much to the debate.

I'll be totally honest here which may come across badly to some people, perhaps even your good self.

I'd rather have 1 obsessed fanatic, from whichever side, than a thousand insipid 'it's just a game' dullards who sleepwalk through life.

Football is supposed to be a passionate exciting sport but some people can't wait to frown on any passionate and excited supporters.

I love my club and I love the banter and I love derby day and I love how happy we are and I love how desperate they are :D

Sport as a whole is passionate mate,and everybody should be passionate about their own club.

To me sport is about been as passionate as can on the field give everything you can for your team,but at the the end of the game shake hands with the opposition and respect them.

That's simply the way I look at things.

You can be extremely passionate about your own club but still respect fans from another,because at the end of the day the fans of that other club are probably just as passionate as you.

But I'd say that's the critical point you're missing mate.

I have 'NUFC' family in the Chopwell/Rowlands Gill area and we absolutely slate each other ......... yet the respect couldn't be any greater.

No one wants anyone to die or suffer hardship, it's just banter man ......... it's been like this for decades.

Do you not think the lads, from both sides, in the shipyards, mines, iron works, etc took the piss mercilessly?

This board is just an extension of that, don't take it so seriously.

I get pleasure and joy at seeing my own club do well,don't get that much joy seeing another club not doing so well,unless we actually playing that club in a game.

Other people like you might see pleasure at another club not doing so well,up to you,don't see the need to call you names for that as that is your opinion and up to you.

I am not banter is great,was just giving opinion that it is bit of overkill now as op said.
