Listening to turtle spurt on the way home from work. Have I missed something? Have the mags won a trophy or something.

I hear their manager is staying but I think they have been promoted straight away to the premier league and are also straight into the champions league the way they are going on.

Kleenex sold out on Tyneside I'm hearing too
Thought that finished for the summer? Or is this a rafa not leaving one off special?

Mags. You. You lot.
Steve you're having a mare here like. Terry and Gatesheed (poster name Gerald unsafe conviction etc.) and all their extended friends and family are in the main massive lads fans.

They've even managed to convert a few Leeds (Imran O'Grady - aka the Chapeltown Cuffer) and even Smoggy Sid to watch the lads on a few minibus outings now.

@TerrysChippie is probably too modest to say it, but I think they played a massive part in our survival when others had given up and stopped believing and following the lads.

Benitez will be gone by Xmas. Hounded out because they haven't already been confirmed as Champions.

The last time I got excited by a managerial appointment at Sunderland was Lawrie Mac.

You'd think the Mags would have learned their lesson by now.

Well that's all very subjective isn't it? You say 5 of those 6 teams weren't at their best? I don't think Arsenal were at their best against us (because they would have beat us, comfortably, if they were at their best). Chelsea weren't at their best, as again they'd beat us. Didn't see the Stoke game so cannot comment, although they had less to play for than some of the teams the Mags played so probably fall into the same category as your examples.

It's a silly argument based in bias, which automatically accounts all of our good results to being brilliant, and all the Mags to being lucky.

Anyone who watched the games could clearly see that Liverpool and Man C switched off at half time. Both had Euro semi's looming and you honestly think Spurs would have lost 5-1 against ten men if they were still going for the title? Swansea gave up after going behind (similar to Everton for us) and they ran their luck against Palace too.

Arsenal & Chelsea put in good performances, however we dug in and fought very, very well. The same just can't be said for Man C, Liverpool or Spurs.

The Mags collected a lot of points in those last half a dozen games that their performances didn't really merit. It happens through a season. There's been times where we've been fortunate to collect points, the mags just had one of those runs at the end, and now Benitez is being declared a genius  I'm non plussed about him staying. He's a decent manager, but not overly sure he's worth £5m a season in the Championship.

OK then, your fans hounded out MoN after 45 minutes in his first game in charge, that's a fact, backed up by match reports, and people booing at the match. That must be a record. You can put that next to the 1-9 trophy

Yes, some did,but not all. Booing a team off doesn't constitute a hounding out, surely you as a Sunderland cancan understand that, you were nearly booing your side off every home game earlier in the season and last
I certainly wouldn't have said Bobby was hounded out but fans dissatisfaction was part of the decision to have him sacked and as you say some fans wanted him out. Pardew was hounded out and that was certainly different to how Bobby was treated.

Compare that to the battling qualities we faced against Stoke & Watford (twice coming back from behind) Arsenal & Chelsea put in good performances, however we dug in and fought very, very well. The same just can't be said for Man C, Liverpool or Spurs.

One thing that can be said is that we didn't always get the points that maybe our performances deserved (not necessarily the last half a dozen mind) whereas the Mags collected a lot of points in those last half a dozen games that their performance didn't really merit. It will be funny if they don't come straight back up.
