All clubs that were in position to compete, not on their knees. I could have gotten a few results out of that Chelsea squad and Gerrard dragged Liverpool through that Champions league win.
I wasn't concentrating on the CL win. He got Liverpool to 2 CL finals, plus repeatedly finishing top 4.

His time at Chelsea, with all the rancour directed against him, was especially impressive.

I'll post whatever threads I like ....... people seem to enjoy them,

Stop being defensive, I never said you couldn't. I'm merely disputing your claim that you don't have the stats to hand when you quote stats every other day as long as they back up your general points.

To be fair Rafa has improved their fortunes. McClaren had a win percentage of just 21%! Rafa has improved this to a whopping 22%.

Also 10 games is not enough time to save a club from relegation. This has been proven by the times we were relegated after appointing di canio (8 games) and Advocaat (9 games). He needed more time.

I think Benitez would struggle in the championship.
It is very tough and physical with 46 games with a lot shrewd experienced managers .
who would like to put one over Benitez ,the likes of McCarthy ,Warnock,Grayson etc.
Speaking as a fan whose team is struggling down there after being relegated 2 seasons ago
They are no way certainties to bounce back.
Moyes maybe a better fit.
Cannot understand their love in with Benitez, cant see him coping ,but long may it continue.

As I've said 3 times, I've no idea.

In the time it took for you to argue that point you could've Googled it.

Anyway, one of the clever lads did it #104

The fuss about keeping Dick Advocaat didn't pay our at all well, did it?

Benitez did make a difference to results and performances, and they obviously think that a world class manager is someone not to be let go lightly.
Plenty I have spoken to wouldn't agree with that.

Allardyce was seen as unfashionable and had this myth surrounding him that he played hoof ball. Your fans latched onto this and decided he wasn't good enough. There were plenty of comments around at the time that his style wasn't what you were used to.
His signings were white, his tactics were awful, and the results were on the decline. People couldn't care less if the footballs bad if you're winning. That's another myth peddled out

See that's the myth .......... the result and performance at Villa was absolutely abysmal and no better than McClaren managed.
That's one game.

I'm confident that had Rafa been announced as Sunderland manager last summer this board would have lit up, and rightly. You'd have been looking at top ten minimum, with the right investment top 6.

We're those 2 only 1 point from safety when they took over .......... I've no idea.

See, this is another 'fact' I don't get ......... Newcastle had a real chance only 2 games ago yet it's now being said 'it was too late'.

Newcastle were above Sunderland less than a week ago man

17 36 -25 33
18 35 -18 32
19 35 -26 31
20 36 -45 16
Exactly this. After Palace handed them a win and we stumbled at Stoke, they were suddenly on the up and confident they would finish ahead of us. It was only their villa game and our chelsea win that meant they suddenly didnt have enough time, which of course is an excuse for that monumental fuck up. Had they beaten villa then it was still all to play for. f***ing pathetic.

Oh, and the club is apparently rotten from top to bottom again, despite £80m spent in one season.

...... is crystallising.

Bit by bit, thanks to the likes of Thewliss and the rest of the media, the myth is being carved in stone that 'if only Rafa had come in a month earlier' they would've avoided relegation and would now be starting the march to glory ...... well it's bollocks.

Under McClaren the cry was always 'loads of quality, just need a little organisation', I saw it posted on here dozens of times.

When Benitez was appointed he repeated that 'fact' and pointed out why they would stay up. "We need to give the players confidence. I know we have ability,” he says, "I’m here because I believe we’re good enough to stay in the Premier League.”

He was given huge wages and an open hand to do whatever it took to save the club from relegation.
He said he could do the job, with that squad, in the time he had.
Tufty was derided for insisting they were improving ......... Newcastle were rubbish against Villa but it isn't the fault of the latest Messiah, no sir.

In reality, whatever the claims that he's 'tightened up the defence' or 'instilled a new ethic' they're still shite.

The facts, rather than the fiction, are that since he arrived Newcastle have failed against Sunderland, Norwich & Villa. The new improved defence conceded 8 goals in the 3 away games before Villa and they only managed 3 on target shots at Villa Park ........ Villa had conceded an average of 3 goals in the 5 previous games.

In a game Newcastle simply had to win, Benitez got the tactics, selection and substitutions wrong.

So now Ashley has to take the blame, as usual, because King Rafa was 'brought in too late'.

I truly hope he stays, as everyone seems to be praying for, and makes a complete fuck up as he's done so far.
Great post, I have constantly asked my Mag mates what makes this bloke so revered for basically doing fuck all. Still waiting for a decent answer apart from I am only jealous!

Yes, but it was shite ..... so where's the improvement since Benitez arrived?

Theres three million good reasons why FSW will stay with the skunks

That's win percentage by the looks of it when the discussion was around the PPG.

Anyway:
McClaren 0.86
Benitez 1.11
