Who'd have thunk 7 days ago Rafa would be where he is now. 10 games or three years its a stunning move.

you are very lucky, bet you can't believe it!

It's a reverse you's lot but the Derby and Norwich after make our season.

I'd accepted going down and I still think we will but the hope is going to hurt more than ever

What a f***ing coup for the *****. How have they got someone like him? It's unfathomable

Unforts the general consensus amongst other club's fans is that they'll be top half challenging for europa spots next season if they stay up this season. Shite on here though

Who knows what's going to happen? Credit to the board for getting the best appointment available but we'll still more than likely be relegated and if we somehow do stay up the cynic in me suggests that the board will contrive to make this a clusterfuck knowing how Benitez doesn't tow the party line with owners.

Unless your squad are just absolute arseholes who won't play for anyone then I think you will easily get enough points based on players looking to impress him.

I don't think he is all he is cracked up to be....if he was he wouldn't have taken this job, his rep is lower than ever. In the interim however it will probably work and at our expense. f***ing typical.

Agree with every word of that

Mentioned on another thread, but in the position both clubs are in right now, I'd take allardyce over Benitez every day of the week. Long term though for both clubs, whoever stays up I fully expect them to be comfortable next season, but that lot especially would have a real chance of improving with him in charge. Pains me to say it mind and without looking at it through anti mag eyes, long term it could really push them on. Hopefully the short term means that doesn't happen and they go down.

Don't see what the big deal is on here, not a major shock that they have changed managers. Benitez is a bit like Allardyce, organise boring but likes and needs a fair few bob to spend. Just have to wait and see, we are where we are (again) because of what we have done and failed to do, we have given ourselves a chance, although made it harder but we were always going to struggle this season. No one can seriously whinge if this year is our year, we've been trying hard enough.

Due to the fact I think it's either us or them for the final relegation spot, this imho is a disastrous move for us. I think Benitez will get them at least 3 wins by the end of the season (hopefully 1 of them is not us, but I fear it might be ).

I just don't see the why you think this. There is nothing to suggest to me that their players are going to 'easily' outperform ours over the rest of the season.
That assumes they have better quality and the players were just taking the piss - like Chelsea earlier in the season.

Would you really swap Defoe and Borini for Perez and Cisse? Kone and JoS for Coco the clown and whatever other CB they can scrounge up from the physio's table? Khasri, Mvilla and Kirchoff for their midfield?

We have as good or better players, as good a manager for a relegation fight, and we are in good form, gelling well and play at least 5 teams who are already on the beach, plus the Mags .. Who play us 5 days after a nice away evening at the King Power...

And yet overhauling us and Norwich is going to be 'easy' for them because they have recruited someone less sh8t than McLaren who has never managed a team in relegation trouble before? Well neither had Felix Magath as I recall...

He's a very good manager. Ideal for a club outside the elite who want to break into the top 4 or 5 and win a trophy.

However he's probably not suited to a relegation battle or managing a team already at the top of the tree like Real Madrid. The squads at Madrid and to a lesser extent Napoli were outstanding, he only needed to fine tune them and he struggled. At Newcastle right now he's fire fire fighting, not sure if he's ever had to do that before. I really hope he struggles with this task as well.

IF they stay up he'll be the perfect man to overhaul them and build a squad. At Liverpool he made some very average players like Biscan and Traore over achieve, won trophies and improved them. It looks like he'll be given the money and resources to do that at Newcastle. Fingers crossed we survive at their expense and he'll be gone.
