Fair enough, if both parties are under 16 there's not a lot you can do about it. Kids will always get up to 'stuff', no law can absolutely stop sex, least of all between teenagers with raging hormones . It can, and indeed does, however, at least criminalise adults who take advantage of young people. My problem is the age of consent. Even if the girl had been 16, it still seems very wrong to me for a 28 year old to have sexual contact with her.

Unfortunately girls mature much quicker than boys. Its a fact of life. This was because girls would have married as soon as they reached puberty, and would have been caring for children at a young age. Their male counterparts, would have been learning a trade, or how to hunt. This was how society began, and over the centuries we have become educated, and changed the way we look at this. We can't however change the natural make up of the body's biology, and our urges are still there.

He knew he was breaking the law and deserves any punishment that he has coming to him, he can't really have any complaints and I certainly have no sympathy for him.

I agree with every word of that, and the opening paragraph is facinating.

Setting the age of consent is indeed arbitrary and complicated, but I maintain that 16 is too young as a 'catch all', or as close as you can get. Indeed, girls mature at different ages and there is no perfect solution. 18 would be far better IMO, at least they are legally adults.

Absolutely not, she's been shit upon from a great height, and from what I've heard she's a nice lass and not your average wag. Not that anyone deserves what he's done. There are a lot of victims in this. The damage that arsehole has done beggars belief.

She was a nursing mother at the time as well, her hormones will have been all over the place, plus she probably still loved him you can't just turn your feelings on and off, my heart goes out to her she's played a particularly shitty hand with dignity.
