Sunderland afc news and banter page on facebook just shared a link about how the girl is supposedly going to sue johnson. The comments on the shared post are literally unbelievable. Its scary how stupid some people are

The mere fact he has admitted guilt at the start of the case rather than during the interviews with the police is telling, the onus was on him to inform the club of his guilt or not, he has either done that and the club have turned a blind eye to it which given the severity of the offences i am dismissive of that version
Or he has said he hasn't done a thing, he and his QC have shown transcripts of the interviews which contained some of the messages and he has lied about the intentions of the messages and denied anything occurred.
The second version is much more plausible given his repeated lies and arrogance through the entire case.

Aye he's hardly a beacon of reliability like. He's admitted he's lied, then lied again. Sure I heard somewhere, he got advice off 9 different defence lawyers as well before he pleaded guilty. He's tried all he can to get off with it.
 
As a diversion from the arguments about the club, as he was found not guilty of one of the charges do certain people on here still think he should sue the girl for lying about him?

The 'proven facts' don't matter as much as the narrative at this point - and it becoming the accepted narrative (see headline on front page of The Times yesterday) that our club played AJ for 12 months knowing he had groomed and snogged an under age girl. If this isn't addressed by a direct denial it will remain the accepted and final narrative on the issue - which would be massively damaging to the club.

So they really need to address it directly - when they decided to play him did they know Johnson had french-kissed a 15 year old or not?
It's not a complicated issue - a one-line statement from Byrne would clear it up - but their attempts to answer the point by pointedly not answering it and 'move on' just reinforce the current narrative...

It certain increases the importance of the club's decisions and probably the level of scrutiny its now facing. It meant that Johnson was involved in 20+ more matches over a 6 month period this season, had the trial took place in August then the decision to allow him to play (rightly or wrongly) would have meant his involvement in matches after the 4th May meeting was actually quite small

Last I checked Sunderland are not on trail.....when does it stop?

People jobs are at stake that are just hard working people....I am disgusted at some people actions towards Sunderland. One person did the crime and will be doing time that it. Innocent until Guilty. Sunderland DID NOT do anything wrong as far as I am concerned.

Every industry has a bad apple it just gone to far all these special interest groups.....thou my prayers and thoughts go to the victim in this case instead of the blame game.
 
Even if you think the club are at fault, this is not about the club, it is about what is currently accepted in professional football. It is up to the FA and Premier League to set rules and guidelines regarding what a club should be expected to do when there is an issue of child protection. I do not think the Johnson incident is an isolated incident confined to our club. As I have stated way back in this thread, for me this is a contravention of the law, but I am not convinced the girl has suffered what could be defined as abuse. However, if the league needs to set lines and standards for its players then it needs to do it in a very plain fashion which helps the players avoid breaking the rules. They need to send any player who signs for a club, be there a foreign signing or otherwise, on a course making explicit what the rules are and what will happen if they break our laws.

As it stands I believe the problem is endemic, and the attitude of every club is to try to cover it up. The key difference in this case is that it appears that there was no attempt to reach a financial settlement prior to it becoming a criminal matter.
