Adam Johnson Trial Verdict

If it's true that Byrne knew them she should do the honourable thing and resign. She is well out of her depth before this. The whole shit storm over the di Fanti appointment. The whole saga over his sacking. The McClean poppy thing, the de Fanti article, the Alvarez transfer. Ji's registration. Plus it would be hypocrite of her to sack out marketing director over a sexually expletive email and to then cover up for a sex offender. Also puts us in our place. She chose a player over a fan even when she knew the full story.

I am, I'm also aware of the lies SHE told.

Why are you so keen to defend an adult, in a position of responsibility, who has groomed and had sexual activity with a 15 year old girl, just because he plays for the club you happen to support. Does it matter? If it was just a bloke you had no connection with would you be so bothered?

If the club didn't know what he had done, they would have said it. The statement would have been a paragraph.

Since he pleaded 'not guilty' for as long as possible, the good and proper thing to do would have been to suspend him until the conclusion of the trial. Even without the child safety concerns, you cannot have someone accused of noncing a young fan representing your organisation.

Instead, they played him to help save the club from relegation.

It's really that simple and it's absolutely disgusting. Byrne should resign and there needs to be an inquiry about who else was party to the decision. Sack the head of PR while you're at it.

This is what I thought at the time, and I knew it would come back and bite the club on the arse

1) The charges he admitted to would have got him a suspended sentence because the grooming aspect is taken so seriously
2) He wasn't convicted of oral sex with a child, he was acquitted of that, and done for digital penetration
This. I set out in another thread the sentencing guidelines for this offence. A suspended custodial sentence was the likely outcome but it could easily have been immediate custodial.
