Adam Johnson Trial Verdict

So that is not gross incompetence? You have to concede that?
It depends, I was once sitting outside a Court waiting to go in, the opposition barrister had left a file and a Court Starement on the bench, a colleague picked it up and read it, as I was her manager and hadn't realised what she'd done, so hadn't stopped her we both came very close to being sacked because the court statement hadn't yet been submitted as evidence. The opposing barristers and solicitors kicked up a right stink.
It's honestly a minefield, reading court documentation, the legal system is a minefield.
I know you think I'm just defending the club blindly but a lot of what I'm saying comes from personal experience of the judiciary, and the systems and rules around it.

The PFA are partly to blame wouldn't you agree?
If they had similar access to evidence then very much so, no party is coming out of this looking good at all, but at the end of the day the club should've acted and done way above what was the minimum they had to do let's not forget it was a young fan of the very club that's been wronged and almost forgot about in all this.

You know how this works? The Guardian ring up people specifically for the quote they want, they could have got a quote saying the opposite if they wanted mate. But they didn't want to, as this is a better story for them. Its called journalism.
Shouldn't you be changing your nickname? Rolf and Saville haven't been taken.

The fans who go to the games, there is usually 40k of them, who are the lifeblood of the club

I couldn't give a flying fuck what a few tabloid newspaper thinks

hope that helps.

What about the wider public? Or is it a case of "woah woah woah this is my football club and I'm loyal to them, let them do as the please"? Seems that way with some.

That's just not true... nobody would have a go at the club for suspending a player accused of using his position as a player, at the training ground, to sexually abuse a child.

Is that what he did ...... I must have read the charges wrong, my mistake.

"Sunderland AFC made a “catastrophic error of judgment” when they allowed Adam Johnson to continue playing despite knowing he privately admitted kissing a 15-year-old schoolgirl, child protection experts have said."

Chile protection experts

No wonder they're taking the chance to deflect attention after their shameful failures at Rotherham etc ........ dear me.
Voodoo Chile?

Have we any actual evidence that the club knew exactly what he was accused of back then? Have the police actually stated (& of course they never make mistakes/lie do they?) exactly what they told the club? I doubt it.

The courts need to get him sentenced asap (higher sentence to make an example of him & to compensate for the lack of action on much more serious cases ) & then we can all forget about him.

Can we not just sack the DJ at the stadium? It worked for the BBC. ;)

in what capacity...

Oh here we go, I bow down to the world's greatest living comedian, how do you come up with stuff?

Ah was it because my surname is Johnson, and hang on, the convicted player is also called Johnson.

Your levels of wit are unbelievable, give up the day job mate, you have a future on this game.

The wider public read the Sun and laugh at stuff like this ........ just like they laughed at Rooney.

Aye of course they do. Young lasses life in shreds while a millionaire goes on plying his trade to the adoration of thousands. Hilarious.

Maybe the club lawyers advised them to let the legal process take its course.
Fair point, I still find it implausible that nothing was read and having known AJ admitted to kissing and grooming that they were advised to let him keep playing. Given his position and that kids look up to footballers and come into contact with them all the time.

Am I correct in thinking that he wasn't at the hospital visits ?

It's actually a serious allegation.

A trivial, small minded, unimportant response to a trivial error that many of us make when we refer to our beloved club.

I have followed S(A)FC for over 60 years and I have often spoken of Sunderland Football Club.

Congratulations to the OP for starting an excellent topic. I salute you. Oh, and I agree.

It's not trivial at all it's the name of our beloved club.

Do Man United or Man City fans call their beloved club 'Manchester'?

Good point....I'm not sure, tbh.

It's been exceptionally tough for the club as well. He and his legal team clearly suggested that they were pleading not guilty and expected to succeed with this. Having suspended him the club lifted the ban after consulting with the PFA and Johnson's legal team. We don't know how and why Johnson told the club he expected to get off with it but that's what they are saying. Johnson then played sporadically picking up £3M on the way. He then on the eve of the case decided to plead guilty and was sacked.

To me it appears that Johnson and his legal team always knew he was going to plead guilty but hid that from everyone so he could maximise his income knowing that ultimately he was being sent down. In hindsight it would have been great for the club to sack him straight away with whatever knowledge they had but that would be very difficult as he already entered not guilty pleas. As an aside why on earth does it take 18 months to get to court, it is quite ludicrous.

I don't mind it, Johnson is a very common surname

It just amuses me how people think they have come up with a crackerjacker of a world class joke, that nobody has thought of.
