Anyone needed time off work with stress that was caused by your job/workplace/bosses?

Did you manage to go back to the same job afterwards or did you have to find somewhere else to work because going back would have been too stressful?

As of Wednesday I've been off with stress, but my doctor suspects that an illness I had a few weeks back that I had thought was a virus may actually have been stress too.

So, I've been prescribed a course of diazepam over the phone by the Urgent Care Doctor at my local surgery, and have a proper doctor's appointment in a week to see how I'm going, but right now pretty much my every waking thought is stressing about going back to my job, facing the same old shit that sent me this way in the first place but with the extra added stress of worrying about talking to them about having had time off with stress.

I'd quite like to hear about other people's experiences of being in similar situations if you don't mind sharing.

P.S. Diazepam's quite good isn't it?
 

I was off with depression, but there is no doubt that work stress was a big factor in it over prolonged period of time.

For me the break along with meds did me good. To be fair to work i went back on reduced hours initially and they were very supportive with workload etc.

A year on the stress and workload is as bad as ever, although i'm coping with it much better.

The employer should look at how they can support you through it, but in reality i doubt many do.

Been through loads of work related shite myself this year and it's a nightmare. Depending on where you work/what you do will prob be main factor in if/how/when you go back. What I'd advise is try to do things that take your mind off the work stuff. There's probably not a lot you can do regarding what's going on so just accept that and try not to dwell, I know easier said than done but just do the things you enjoy doing when you're off work. Diazepam is a good medication but you'll only be prescribed it short term so use it sparingly when you find yourself getting worked up about stuff.

I went back to work 3 weeks ago after 4 months off and have been on sick since then because I wasn't managing as well as I thought I was. Going back next week on reduced hours for a month which I think will help. Like I said it'll all depend on your employer how supportive they are.
 
I was prescribed Diazapam, then Imipramine and then Lorezapam over many months. All of them were a nightmare to the point where I couldn't leave the house. Binned them all eventually and hit the bottle with much better results.
 
I had to leave my last job due to stress. I was being bullied by my boss. It got to the brink were I was suicidal. I just couldn't go back.

But last year I was stressed again in my new job. It just got to the point when I was just running on empty. My new employers are great and have helped. It also help that the bitch squad has been broken up.:lol:

My problem right now is that I'm worked up about stuff all the time. They've given me minimum dosage - 2mg tablets - "one to be taken three times a day when required" and they definitely help quieten my mind and relax me. I've been managing full nights' sleep the last two nights since I started the diazepam too - can't remember the last time I managed that - and I've been napping in the daytime the last 2 days too.

Trying to distract myself by watching movies, playing computer games etc. but my head keeps returning to a state of dread and racing thoughts, where I'm essentially enacting potential future conversations with my bosses when I get back to work.

No, I'm a Website Content Manager / Brand Manager / Design Concept Creator / Marketing Manager / Social Media Manager / Intellectual Property Law advisor for a clothing printing company's 2 biggest selling websites, and sole Licensing Executive / Contract Law Executive in charge of finding clients, writing legal contracts, and examining and proposing alterations to legal contracts from other companies for our new merchandising sister-company, for which I just landed them a massive merchandising deal for a popular computer game after working on it with no help from anyone else for the last year.

£8 an hour I'm on, getting criticised for micro-nonsense regularly, and just got a verbal warning on Monday for a bit of ludicrously minor workplace banter with a close friend in another department.

I work 4 days a week, and it costs me £15 a day in taxis to get to and from work, so for the last 3 years I've been working my ass off for them and living in practical poverty while they're creaming in the cash from the work I do for them.

If I were to quit, they'd need to hire at least 3 people to replace me, and would probably have to pay each of them more than they pay me.

Basically, one of the two directors doesn't like the fact I don't kiss his ass like a mindless worshipper, and so I think he's got my direct supervisor out looking for any possible infraction they can whip me with to force me out of the company legally.

Try mindfulness, it can be very effective in helping turn off that cycle of the mind going over and over stuff.

And join a union if you haven't already.

"Thinking too much" is what got me into this situation in the first place. :lol:

i got subscribed diazepam and temazepam when, my mrs died....good stuff...especially after a few lagers/ciders

Reading the above , you need to leave asap , if you cant handle a part time job then the problem is either yourself or thenviroment your working in , its not like your getting adequately tewarded for your efforts even , go and find a stress free job , there must be loads about for a shit wage like that.

Part of my problem is that I really enjoy the work itself - it's intellectually and creatively stimulating - it's just the bullshit that comes along with it, and being paid about a third of the wage I should be getting for it.

It's something to help clear your mind. It isn't some new age thing. I did it. I put up pictures of quotes from Ali and Tony Soprano:lol: But there positive.

I started Kickboxing to help relief the stress. Sometimes a bit of exercise is the best medication.
