Oh dear oh dear oh dear.

For all the holier than thou comments last night about the past being irrelevant, this freak of nature from Manchester is now doing exactly that.

You couldn't make it up.

It must be terrible to suffer from little man syndrome but unfortunately, Man City are the biggest sufferes of all-They're not even the biggest club in their own town

Quite what Man City have to do with this thread is anyones guess but I suppose its understandable for such a small time team.

You couldn't get more petty than that

Never understood these kind of jibes. You are aware that they share their city with one of the biggest clubs in world football and not Birmingham City and West Bromwich Albion?

I just don't get all this which club is bigger than another.....Sunderland is the biggest club in my world.....everyone else is an opponent - don't give a flying bollocks about what Nicholas or any other tosser thinks.......it really is about as irrelevant as it gets

Because I'm a neutral and I'm capable of forming an independent view. It's nothing to do with City, it's to do with correcting your myopic view of Villa whilst spouting utter nonsense about Sunderland.
Again, I'm handing you your arse on a plate (again) and demonstrating how Sunderland and EVEN City have had better attendances than you, and City managed to do whilst being a division lower. Not bad for the second largest team in Manchester vs the largest one in Birmingham eh?

So, tell me, what do you put your poor attendances down to, after all your impressive successes (which nobody is denying) still haven't manifested themselves as tangible fans. You're in the second largest city in the land, some of the best transport links in the country, and still not drawing on the crowds? what's the story eh? Sunderland are managing without a huge trophy cabinet. City were managing a division lower and before the money, Newcastle the same.

All the evidence is pointing to you not being as big as you think you are.

Yes he is, isn't he?

Unfortunately, that is what a lifetime of living in the shadow of his neighbours has done to him-He's all bitter & twisted & by the time Man City have started doing something, nobody else gives a fuck-Talk about missing the boat

I have no interest in what you have to say mate and don't think you're a Villa fan anyway.

Bye

Yep, and it's the same for Everton. Less than a mile from a hugely successful club, and still pulling in the crowds. In fact City, Liverpool, United and Everton are all within an 18 mile radius.

He's never a grandfather either. Anybody of any age will appreciate how big a club Sunderland are.
He sound's like a PL generation fan caught out.

You are correct. It is the way of the world these days.

I didn't actually slate the city although I do not like the place any more. As I said previously, the schools are nearly all very poor, the traffic is horrendous and the immigrant/muslim population is swelling all the time.

I hate big cities & much prefer the country, which is where I live now

You can say that again

Piss poor Cringe, you are a pathetic sad waste of space, the sooner you fuck off the better you sad deluded wanker.

I don't know if it's been mentioned, but I'll tell you what does indicate how fanatical and loyal the fans of a club are and that's away following. Our current derby is Newcastle of course, but most other away matches are hundreds of miles away and yet we sell out our allocation time and time again. Yesterday over 3000 travelled the 180ish miles to Birmingham. It's not worth very much financially, if anything, but it must be quite a sight for our new players to see that 10% of the crowd are ours away from home. You can rarely hear the away fans on televised matches, but you can hear ours loud and proud win lose or draw

Fair enough.
It is quite peculiar to Birmingham people though, that mindset, don't you think?
In my experience, people from the other big English cities tend to be proud (indeed often overly so) of where they come from, eg Scousers, Mancs, Geordies, Londoners.

By contrast, a lot of Birmingham wallahs seem to want to do the place down. In my experience more so the Villa fans than the Blues fans (who seem more proud of the place).

Must be a bit strange to revere a football club, yet simultaneously dislike the city it is located in, especially if you are actually from there.

For the record, I think Brum is a fairly under-rated city. The area around Villa Park though is depressing.

In fairness, you haven't understood much at all have you?

Yes, you do share your cities with bigger clubs. Having seen the agony & bitterness that Birmingham City fans suffer under our superiority, I can only imagine how bitter & twisted Everton & Man City fans must be given the success of their superiors. No wonder they refer to you as the "bitters"

I actually think the local identity is lost for most teams nowadays with much of the support coming from outside the cities/towns in which the clubs play.

I used to love Birmingham and was always proud to come from there but things change-I didn't want my son growing up there-The kids he was mixing with were horrible, the crime rate is quite bad and I am a very impatient driver. I live in a nice English village now, most of my family are out here, the pace of life is slower and calmer. I'm just not a big city person. You can't tell me you enjoy going to London can you?

Anybody who loves football, and understands the wider game understands Sunderland's stature.
If you put all the partisan bullshit aside, nobody can deny they've stood pretty proud through thick and thin, and regardless of what people make of attendance figures, they are there in black and white to reflect the significance of the club. They are significant enough for 40K a week to show up with or without trophies.
Villa whilst having enjoyed more success, haven't managed to translate that into any more tangible significance when it comes to fans supporting them at the gates. Make of that what you will.
I don't deride Villa, nor Sunderland. What sort of fans does that? I do deride one individual Villa fan, because he's a) arrogant b) ill-informed and c) uses immigration as a criticism of his city when immigrants helped to make his city.

Not sure this thread needs more fuel tbh skip

Spot on mate. I dont recall anyone saying Villa were our idols because they sent our nearest and dearest down.

I said to @TAFKAHM yesterday as we drove down, dont expect West Brom! I much prefer a trip to Everton than Liverpool, Arsenal rather than Spurs, West Brom rather than Villa.
We had a good craic with Everton fans after we beat them last year. Villa fans yesterday were mouthing off after the match about our fans acting like we had won. Bitterness isnt a good emotion oh deluded ones.

Ive never felt the need to remind the Baggies of their empty seats, as they are generally friendly at both home and away games. Villa last season at our place, even before they tonked us, reminded me why I dont like them. Arrogance personified.

Aye, totally different than west brom, decent boozer beforehand mind, aye you could tell villa were mouthy coming out, decent criac and result...
