I get so bored with this bollocks.

My club is and always will be SAFC. I cannot give a flying fuck whether it is big, small or invisible. It is my club.

The club's size will not influence whether or not it wins games.

Can we please, please, please change the bloody subject.
 

Villa are bigger than us and easily in the top 10 of biggest English clubs -I watched them win the European cup ffs!

What Villa do or don't do is of little concern to me these days.
When you become competition again, I'm sure I'll take more interest.

I don't take any pleasure in seeing teams relegated though. I know how it feels, and I'm not that sort of bloke.
I do however believe that fans who have suffered that fate have a better appreciation of how nothing in football is guaranteed, and they learn an appreciation of the ups and downs (literally) of football.
Fans that haven't experienced it often have a air of smugness in the assumption that their own club could never suffer such an experience.

It's very difficult to judge a club that way. They have a much higher population, but as you say, they also have other clubs to content with. Half of Sunderland's radius is in the North Sea though, so Villa already have twice the catchment area for a given radius.

You could also look at it another way and argue that Sunderland comparative lack of success only serves to makes their gates even more impressive. After all, with all the past glories Villa have enjoyed, shouldn't they be pulling in bigger crowds? (just playing devil's advocate).

I'd say Villa are a big crowd puller (compared with most clubs), but I'd say there's little to suggest they are going to get any 'bigger' in the coming years, whilst other clubs clearly are surpassing them. That ultimately means they are falling behind. I don't see anything to suggest Villa are any bigger than Sunderland at this point in time (which is nothing to do with their past successes).
If the debate what who has been the most successful, than Villa would be ahead of most clubs, including City, but that's not the debate.

Honestly, why do you lot get so wound up about this? I've not seen another set of fans so fixated on this entire "bigger club than x" thing. I just don't get it.

Villa and Sunderland have both spent five years or more poking around the arse end of the table like more established versions of Wigan, under achieving so much that it is honestly cringemaking to watch.

Like anyone gives a flying fuck about arguments like this when both clubs have spent so long being absolutely f***ing embarrassing.

The entire "bigger club than ..." argument is so small time, and it only ever comes from clubs who have spent years and years making themselves look a f***ing mess.

Do you think Chelsea fans give a flying fuck that Villa and Sunderland were mopping up league titles decades before they were formed? No they don't. Do you think anyone really gives one tenth of one single fuck that you get bigger crowds than villa do? No. Do you think anyone gives a flying fuck that Villa won stuff in the 1980s? No they don't.

The entire "bigger crowds" thing is totally bogus for starters. Like Southampton fans care about that while Villa and Sunderland are half a table below them. Like Schalke fans get any solace from their huge crowds and lack of success. Like Sunderland fans should get any solace from that when their main rivals get bigger crowds than they do, anyway. Don't you ever stop to think about that?
