While playing FM15 I was looking through the record stats associated with the club and the above two players from the 60s/70s.

Jimmy Hamilton is the club's youngest-ever outfield player and the youngest-ever goalscorer for Sunderland AFC.

Derek Forster was the club's youngest ever player - a goalkeeper who deputised for Monty. He worked for Washington Leisure Centre for thirty years until retiring in 2007. He still lives in Sunderland.

Both players never played many games in total for the club. They were before my time. Does anyone have any recollections of the two players either on or off the pitch?

There was an article on the SAFC site dated this month about Jimmy Hamilton.

Great story from him about the game when he scored: “After the match the players were all asking if I was coming for a drink but I was too young and, in any case, my landlady had said I had to be in for my tea at 5.30.

“I signed quite a few autographs but then I had to run to catch my bus.”

This other site I found mentions Derek Forster amongst others. Might be a good resource for people - also might be a few on here who could contribute information.

Saw Chico score and Forster do well for his age. There's you tube footage of the latter playing for us away to Chelsea.

Forster was unlucky to be starting out in a team playing understudy to our all-time record appearance holder.

I will check that footage out - thanks for the heads-up.

I remember the PNE game Chico scored in as if it was yesterday ... One of the better matches in that barren spell before Stokoe arrived. It was a header in the Roker End iirc.

You can't get much sense of where exactly on the opposition's box it was but it looks a strong header.

Clubs played for: Sunderland, Plymouth Argyle, Bristol Rovers, Carlisle United, Hartlepool (1972-1984)

Biography: Chico also played in Sydney,Newcastle & Canberra Australia. Owned restaurant/coffee shop in Dumfries for 15 years. Sold up & now manages a crematorium in the area.

I will throw in another name. Cameron Duncan. He was a goalkeeper.

Played one single game for the club and kept a clean sheet and saved a penalty yet never played a second game.

He had arguably the best career of any Sunderland player ever.;)

Thanks for the article and photo... It's something I remember as a 9 or 10 y old and it's the first time I have ever read about it. I probably couldn't tell you who scored when in most games last season.

The banner on the main stand promoting the next match was a prominent thing of those times for me.... I notice the clock is not on main stand ... Must have been broken. Just trying to work out who the no 8 is looks a bit like Danny Hegan but think that was before his time ?

Saw Forster make his debut in the first game back in Div i..a 3-3 draw with Leicester in 1964. Gordon Banks was in their net.

played a good game as well. But only us could start a season following our first ever promotion with no manager and a 15 year old in goal. Ancient history of course, but a couple of season earlier liverpool..then shit on our shoes in terms of a footballing history..were promoted under Shankley. they never looked back.

Bloody hell who is that number 8?

Sunderland hold the record for the longest headed goal conceded, 35yrds by some Aston Villa player in the 50's? Sure I read this in some book of football facts as a kid, can anyone confirm?
