He hasn't and you have to ask why......surely it's as easy to make the right decisions as it is to make the wrong ones. All it needed was for Short to surround himself with the very best people his millions could employ and/or seek advice from but instead it's been a series of shysters, frauds and confidence tricksters....people with no track-record of success at the job he employed them to do. He really needs to step aside and hand the reins over to someone with more acumen in the sphere he works in and allow them to reconstruct the club from top to bottom with a synergy running through the club that's been lacking under Short.

Surely that is the appointment of Congerton - something you have clearly written off in less than a year. Ignore Di Fanti, that was a false start. You are now contradicting yourself. I'm not saying it will be a success but the appointment of Congerton represents an attempt to employ a football person to do exactly what you want done. After 50 years of underachievement we've got someone wanting to try something quite constructive and different and you want to bin it before its had a chance to succeed. Its a bit disappointing that you can't see that.

How can you say ignore Di Fanti?

It was an appalling decision by short that put the club back.

I actually have no issues with the dof role but the poor decision making from short has wasted time and money and put the club at risk.

That's true. I get the impression he had the likes of MON and Bruce who say to him 'give me more money to spend or we'll go down' like when we paid way over the odds for Graham and he thought that just chucking money at the problem will not work. His attempt to replicate Southampton or Swansea is both laudable and logical. Whether he is successful in this remains to be seen. I'd like us to really give it a go and would be pretty disappointed if we went for the likes of BSA and chucked out the plan without giving it a proper go. He's certainly made mistakes as you point out but that's not unusual - even though he's a successful business man he will be able to point out mistakes in his business career.

As i say i fully understand the attractions of a DOF based system but i don't share your conviction that Congerton is the man to see that through. You say he hasn't had long in the job but he's managed to make the team that struggled last season look even worse with the signings that have came into the club. Is it Congerton's job to impose a style of play through the club where each subsequent appointment of a head coach knows fully what that style is.....or is it just conveniently changed when circumstances suit. There was an evident style last season under Poyet but the summer's business completely pulled the rug from under that....surely it was Congerton's job ensure continuity. We changed again in January signing a striker who was totally ill-suited to a 433 formation but the logic appeared to be that we could sacrifice that in the name of expediency......no strategy other than to keep the Sky $$$$ rolling in.

As i say, it may be the right strategy to employ a DOF system but there's little evidence that Short has made a better decision than the one he made employing de Fanti.

Trouble with that is we need to get someone decent in at the Academy not Ged Mcnamee and his cronies

His footballing decisions have been nothing short of incompetence, I truly hope he sells up and we start again and yes it's always a gamble who we might get blah blah blah

As I say I have no real issue with the dof route my concern is I get the feeling that short thinks its the panacea for all ills when it is just one area.

How does he want us to play?
What type of team does he want us to be?
The academy set up?
What type of head coach does he want?
What scouting structure is he prepared to bank roll?

He's guilty of managing this club by spreadsheet and not appreciating the value of football nous or placing trust in people who say they have it. At best extreme naivety at worst a worrying level of capability and he'll have sacked people for running businesses better than he's running this one. I'm appreciative of the man for essentially bankrolling the club but he's delivered some outstanding gaffes.

Oh well, we agree on some things then. I do think its miles too early to judge Congerton given what we are trying to achieve. I also think a lack of patience will ultimately scupper the plan. Let's hope we are both wrong and Congerton turns out to be a good choice and he's given the time to embed Shorts vision. I certainly prefer Shorts desire to install a footballing identity to Ashley's desire only to make a personal prophet.

Whoever we appoint in the summer will be given about 12-18 months max and he will be gone aswell. The whole club is a joke and its all under Short.

I don't think he looks to finish 17th necessarily, but we are in a difficult position now. Wage budget at its limit, making big losses so little to invest, virtually no saleable assets.
I accept short has to take his share of blame for the decisions made but he must be fuming. How would you feel if that shit had cost you £150m.
