I have no idea of the answer in how to change it, but that is rather damning considering the t20 is a money spinner for counties.

I love all the players piping up. They see the big crowds, and ultimately the £ signs that will inevitably head their way on the back of that.

They don't seem fussed about what people want to watch. I actually agree that we need to do something with our T20, but simple stats like his tell us very little. If we replicated the BBL with the same number of teams based in cities, playing the same number of games, then we would still only get about half of those numbers even with sellouts.

122 games to 35 games

With less games people are more likely to come in numbers. They really need to look at that aspect even if it isn't franchised/less teams.

Frankly the only thing that matters to me is Durham cricket and whether it's beneficial and if there isn't a team based here I don't think anyone will be travelling down to Yorkshire to watch theirs and vice versa. We're all pretty insular. Even in London they've got this north of the river/south of the river thing going on - cutting down the number of teams could result in a drop in attendances.

Maybe the best thing for them to do is to keep the county teams but schedule the games better, promote the hell out of it and even not look to use it as a money spinner but first use next season to build the brand etc. which is what the Aussies did.

Those figures are distorted though. The grounds are bigger in Oz and hold far more than Lord's can. Also I reckon those spectators aren't paying as much as they'd have to to watch T20 in England.

Less games would affect this though. Most of the ground are half empty due to over saturation of cricket.

8 championship home matches, potentially 8 t20 home matches then potentially another 6 50 over games. Plus you have england test,ODI and t20 matches.

The point is in it's current format we play 15 games before the semi final. The big bash is 8 games before that stage.

If they went back to having 3 groups of 6 teams (rather than 2 groups of 9) then each side would only have to play 10 games (5 at home and 5 away). In theory most of the matches would be competitive which would hopefully increase crowds.

The group format could be completed in just over 3 weeks with the group winners and best placed runner up meeting in a finals day a few days later.

However, the main thing that would increase the size of the crowds is ensuring the best players are available to play in all, or at least most of the games. If that means putting the international fixtures on hold for 3 weeks then so be it.

I've never been much of a fan of T20 over here as quite frankly it's piss poor in this country spread out over a ridiculous amount of time with ridiculous fixture scheduling. The T20 in Australia is tremendous, love watching it, great crowds, great entertainment, quality players etc etc.

The ECB are thick as fuck though, they won't have it in them to change the scheduling and pricing of tickets Our first T20 fixture this season is on May 15th, and the last group game is July 24th meaning our group stage is spread over 2 and a half month which is utterly stupid. Compress it into a 1 month-40 day slot and reduce ticket prices, in my opinion would work a lot better.

Like it was when it was first introduced, before greed took over and the counties pushed for a bigger competition with more matches.

Plus 75% of the population in Australia live within a 90 minute drive of a Test ground while that figure stands at 22% in this country.

Should be played over 4 weeks on Tuesdays and Fridays with teams only playing each other once and all games played under floodlights where possible.

If you mean suspend the England team from playing then that can never happen, it may be able to happen partially if the fixtures are spread out but the consensus is that T20 should be played over a concentrated period of time right in the middle of the summer.

But for T20 to generate a bit of excitement it needs it's stars from somewhere, BBL stars were older players retired from the main game surely we could do that, somehow.

The counties vote through rule changes and anything that goes against their own interests is something they won't do. 20:20 crowds despite dropping in the UK, are still huge revenue raisers for each county. If it was a franchise system, say 3 counties to a franchise. each county would lose out on match day revenues etc. Yes fixtures might be televised, although in this country what time of day/week you could actually put games on to make people watch is questionable, and yes more sponsorship might come in, but don't forget to get the best players here you have to pay most of that money out on serious wedge on mercenaries!

Spot on the ECB cannot make any changes to the structure of county cricket unless the counties vote for the change.

Three teams go to one ground, all play each other. Rinse and repeat until you've played each team. Then the knockouts. Held over a shorter period = more time for proper cricket. More games in a short space = more interest for all teams. More people in the ground for a full day = more beer money for clubs.

Agree with a lot of that,apart from the bit about more time for proper cricket,20/20 is proper cricket is popular with fans and loads and loads of cricketing skills are on view.

This is definitely a problem in England, they need to concentrate it down to a one month spell. Dont think it does players any good, especially younger players developing, to be playing T20 one week, then next week a county match, then back to T20, then a county game, then back to T20.

They should play the T20 over a 4 week period, maybe coninciding the start with when the schools break up.

Aye and I remember good crowds not so long ago as well.

My brother paid around $18 to watch Melbourne Renegades vs Melbourne Stars a few weeks back at the Ethiad Stadium. Durham charge £15-£20 to watch us in the T20, people aren't going to pay it. Sussex and Surrey charge £20+

Should be played over 4 weeks on Tuesdays and Fridays with teams only playing each other once and all games played under floodlights where possible.

The residents have objected numerous times to floodlights at Durham CCC which is massively annoying
