Strikers who still scored plenty after 32

Heard a few on here saying at 32 Defoe is past it, we shouldnt be signing him etc. Gonna reel a few strikers off here who were/are still scoring at the top level even at 34/35 onwards.

Raul joined Schalke when 33 and scored 40 goals in 98 games for them.

Van Nistelrooy joined Hamburgers SV when 33 and score 17 goals in 44 games.

Del Piero from age 33 to 36 scored 68 goals in 121 games for Juventus.

Totti scored 42 goals in 71 games for Roma aged 33 to 34.

I'm not saying Defoe is as good as these players but do think he has similar ability as a striker and honestly think he will be a legend for the next 2 to 3 years. His age isnt a concern at all to me and I'm buzzin he chose us over other premier league clubs to end his career.

Are you actually putting Defoe in the same bracket as those players? And also us on a par with those teams?

Or to put it another way, all of those world class players scored significantly less than their career average by the time they hit their 30s.

In Defoe's last half of Premier League football, he scored one goal.

He scored 11 the season prior to that - same as one Stephen Kenneth Fletcher.

He's not as good as them, but has the same ability.

Yes that is possible you know. Many players have similar ability but aren't as good as the best. Let me spell it out for you in language you might understand. Ability wise his striking of the ball is up there with these players. However he is not as good as his consistency is not at their level and he has also never played for a title winning club so was never able to improve his skill to get to that level as these players have done. Hope that clears up your uncertainty.

All of those players and teams were better than Defoe and Sunderland.

This! You could stick Ronaldo in our team and I doubt he'd be hitting 40 plus goals a season

In Defoe's last 3 seasons at Spurs he got 23 in 73 appearances so about 1 in 3. He'll do really well to get the same ratio with a weaker SAFC team. With a 1 in 3 ratio then his target would be 6 goals in the remaining 17 games. Those 6 goals aren't exactly going to win us 17 games (especially if he gets a brace/hatrick against a weaker teams) but maybe he will also offer more to others to score and I hope he f***ing does

Maybe he didn't get to the top clubs nor have that opportunity because he isn't as good. Nowhere near as good in fact.
