Sunderland striker Jozy Altidore was on his way to Toronto on Thursday morning as he and Jermain Defoe prepared to trade places.

Can't wait for a years time when we're all piss-moaning that Defoe is past it, terrible signing, lumbered with him on massive wages etc. Next manager can't get rid of him, Poyet's fault etc.

I saw this and I've been wondering if it'll stall Defoe's signature, hence preventing him from playing on Saturday. I assume he needs to be signed by today? Anyone kna the crack?

I suspect we won't sign Defoe unless or until Altidore signs for a MLS side, we have until miday tomorrow to complete deal in order for him to play on sat

What I like about Defore is that he is a ridiculously selfish player, and he shoots early often, lot of snapshots

Sick of seeing careful play, trying to work the perfect opportunity, sometimes you just need a striker who is only interested in scoring himself.
 
After our first glimpse of Defoe it will be either OMG great signing, quick, elusive and great eye for goal or OMG he is so far over the hill its not funny and we are stuck with him. Fingers crossed!

If Jozy doesn't sign today, I doubt he'll sign by midday tomorrow. That would be 7am in Toronto. Doubt they'll be up and arsed to do business at that time.

Looks like it's got to happen by 10pm tonight UK time

Not quite correct cos if he concludes a deal in Toronto by their bedtime tonight we can do what we've got to do when we start work tomorrow, all Toronto have got to do is fax us overnight, international clearance might be biggest hurdle
