Why is the deal all over the papers?
Simples. To see if anyone will match it down south

I'd say no. Bent could and would score against any level of opposition too. He's a much better finisher than Bent. Bent was just a hit and hope-er. I would say Defoe is more similar to Phillips as well personally.
Or selling Jozy and signing someone who isn't as much of a gamble/will have re-sale value/won't be 35 when his contract expires/doesn't have a history of injuries/long spells without a goal/someone we've watched and scouted for a while/won't be on huge wages.Every signing is a risk. It's at the point given Jozy's input that this signing is virtually a free role of the dice.
My advice would be to sit back and cross your fingers. If it fails the alternative was watching Jozy run up and down the touchline in his tracksuit on the 75th minute, and not getting on anyway.
All confirmed then?Firstly, ive got no idea if this Defoe deal will work out on the pitch, like all deals none of us do.
However, i would commend Congo for some "Out of the Box Thinking".
He's wheeled and dealed to get a wage off our books that was sadly providing very little. He's pretty much maximised that player's value given the circumstances. He's brought in a player against that value so apart from a bit extra money the true cost has been minimised.
As i said, i don't know if it will work, the scouting and checks are down to him too. What i will credit him for is giving us another roll of the dice for a new player to hit the ground running. Apart from the scouting he can do no more.
If Congerton can keep on putting bullets in the gun, then sooner or later they will fire.
Credit to Congo (on this deal).
If he can be arsed he'd be a good signing. Presuming he'd come here of course.Adebayor? Would fit perfectly into our present system.
Both Bent and Defoe are at best mediocre footballers, whereas Phillips was decent and didn't need to heavily rely on others to set him up with scoring chances.

Ive nivver been a fan of his and without the Jose element Id think it was the worst transfer weve ever been involved with. BUT I think this might just work.
People worrying about the length of the deal are getting their boxers in a twist about nowt. Theres no way on gods earth will he be away from London for very long. He'll be topping up his oyster card this summer....thats for sure.
Bent could be played upfront on hs wn whereas Phillips and Defoe cant.
It's just how the papers are spinning it, they wanted it to sound more exciting than it is, so they framed it differently, whereas in actual fact it will be just like any other transfer (apart from the swap bit for altidore obviously)I don't get why the wages are being included in the transfer fee, when does that ever happen? If it's £14million WITH wages then that must only be around £3-4million in actual fee to Toronto, given it's a 3 year contract.

Personally i think it smacks of an obvious signing from a bottom half club shitting their pants and hoying money about with little thought.
I'd be laughing if QPR had done it.
Hope i'm wrong like.
One of the worst transfers we've ever been involved with? Give your head a shake son...
Nunz, Scocco, Medina... I mean, there's loads worse than this. Loads.
And this is a cracking one anyway!
So can anyone confirm for real if this is happening ? And is Jozy off ?
Thing is if QPR had done it there would be plenty on here saying at least they're having a go.
It's not like it's our money - I applaud the club for this show of intention.
