Defoe

I think people are making too much of the number of chances we would create. Defoe will create openings for our midfield to play in by his movement. The midfield take a lot of grief , but creating chances isn't just about the midfield getting it in there, its about forwards getting into meaningful space rather than just standing there marked

I get what you are saying, but sometimes there is nobody within 40 yards of the striker

Not claiming to be ITK here but I've just had a mate ring me to say he's had a tip off that Defoe is signing for us tomorrow. He has no connection to Sunderland this lad so would be a random one for him to make up. He wouldn't tell me who is source is, but through his job I imagine he has a few decent contacts.

Just put £20 on it at 2/1 in case - he's put £100 on it.

Will wait and see.
Fair play mate.

true, I'm just hoping that knowing they will have someone moving trying to create space ahead of them will make them play further forward. If not we are royally fucked cos you may as well have me there.

This with bells on. The lack of movement at times against Liverpool was nothing short of laughable. There was absolutely nothing on for the midfielders to pass to.

Fair enough if that's your opinion

My opinion is that if you were being serious, then you're thick as fuck. Defoe is light years ahead of Altidore (and that's coming from someone who rarely slates Jozy)

Of course he's light years ahead of Altidore, but I didn't say he wasn't.

I think it's dreadful in a financial sense. Mega wages for a bloke who will be nearing 36 when his contract is up. Just smacks of a panic move.

14 million and 80 thousand is ridiculous if true! Im staggered by that!

it's not your money, don't worry

it is a panic move, but we need to do it, because there is a good chance we are going down currently. we have won 3 games and its mid January

'Toronto expect Defoe to return to training' headline from the shields gazette but the link doesn't work on newsnow

May not be imminent

BLACK CATS BAG DEFOE?

The fiercest speculation doing the rounds this morning concernsJermain Defoe and his seemingly imminent return the the Premier League.

Yesterday we reported that as many as 10 top-flights clubs were interested in the former England and Spurs striker and reports in this morning's papers suggest Sunderland are leading the race to sign him from Toronto FC.

Defoe has agreed a £14million, £80,000-per-week deal to move to the Stadium of Light, according to the Mirror.

Sky Sports presenter David Jones claims the deal between the two parties is complete.

Legend, a man amongst.....idiots! ;)

When they say £14m, £80k per week is that referring to what his wages will be worth over the contract. I assume the fee is a straight swap. If so I am happy enough with that deal.

You think signing Defoe will make everything fine ? Hopefully this is just the start in this window

No but I think he would be an excellent signing - high profile, still in good form/fit etc and exactly the sort of boost we need after the lows of Hull/Liverpool. As much as anything its a good statement when a number of other Premier teams were after him.

As I said on here regardless of the 'feel good' of such a signing we will always get the likes of you or Lord Alfred to drag up stats that prove that we are idiots to be pleased with a signing. As usual I try to be optimistic.
