I find it bizarre that we didn't pay Borini this much though.
We aren't paying a fee hence higher wages. Borini was a large fee plus wages and he knocked us back before wages were discussed so how do you know we didn't offer him decent wages, plus we look like offloading Altidore which wasn't on the cards in the summer.

For starters we dont know that he demanded that much, we know thats what he asked QPR for but maybe he just really didnt want to go there, all Poyet has ever said is that its "complicated" so there might have been more to it than purely wages. Also its worth bearing in mind the large fee we'd have had to pay for Borini which would have made it considerably more expensive. Theres also the fact that in the summer we didnt realise that we were going to be unable to score and be in danger of relegation again, that might have just helped convince the money men that a large wage outlay is worth it

Surely we wouldn't give a 32 year old a 3 1/2 year deal on that money???

£14 million is nowt these days if he keeps us up with a few goals. If we go down we sell him and get the money back on the wages spent thus far. Cost neutral

I think he'll be a decent signing, even for the experience side of things, but I hope he's not the only new face we bring in, without a change of players/way we play he'll get as much chances as our other strikers
