Couple of things that might back up the op.

Jozy Altidore might of been given timeoff recently to discuss a move to a couple of american clubs.

Greg Vanney has basically come out and said they want him but already have there 3 dp slots filled, so will have to swap one, they have

So I think one thing is for sure, Jozy is off to america, and if it is to Toronto then Defoe is off somewhere.
From what ive read, I think Jozy will be signing for Toronto soon

Just a thought, does Defoe know Poyet from Spurs? Not sure if they were there at the same time.

On the playing side not sure, they may have overlapped. But Gus was assistant there when that Spanish bloke I can't recall was pissing all them off starving them and obsessed with their weight and got rid of Defoe IIRC.
