If we carry on in the same non committal fashion one day the inevitable will happen.
Being the owner, what will Ellis do in the Championship?
His asset will obviously be massively de-valued but what are his options?
Obviously he has the option to hang around. If he wants to bale out though, how does he go about it?

Seriously man. Do you have nowt better to do?

It's a serious thread and we obviously have to be very wary of what could happen.
He's the owner so he can't sack himself.

Basically, how can he extrapolate himself from the club and what if there was no buyers?

Do you really expect people to take the time to go into an in-depth analysis of what policy they think Ellis Short will take if were relegated?

Ellis is a billionnaire businessman and I suspect he had not even considered this scenario till he read your well informed post, especially as it also contains all the answers to our problems.

You are a credit to the club. What would we (or indeed poor Ellis) do without you? If only a mastermind like you were in charge instead of an astute proven successful businessman. Thanks again.

Every time I come on here you have a thread slagging off Ellis Short.

Whether he's the right man or not, just give it a rest or continue the debate on the other 12,000 threads you've started on him.

Then we continue pulling ourselves into line due to FFP restraints. It's not difficult to master, even though it's hardly sexy...

Not really, if he stayed it would be quite straightforward.

I was more interested in how he, or any owner for that matter, would get away from this investment. I'm not sure how he'd go about saying "That's it, I'm off". It's not like rapping a normal job.
How does he go about it?

How do you 'extrapolate' yourself from this car crash of a thread?

Predictive:- Extricate.

Having already dealt with your complete lack of understanding of your mother tongue, lets now deal with your question.

What would you do if you had bought a house and then could not sell it for what you had paid for it due to a downturn. I suspect you would hold onto it and wait till the market conditions changed. Or perhaps you would walk away and give it to some illiterate idiot on a message board?

Too late - Unlucky;)

Not being funny mate, but Ellis is a smart cookie and if he wants out he will have an exit strategy.

I can see him furiously banging out this thread in between the Balti lattice batch 7 cooling and preparing batch 8 on his night shift - Greggs flagship store, Gatesheed.

If the investment/house could just sit there and not eat any meat for a few years then waiting for prices to rise could be an option. If it means ploughing in more money to cover loses then that's a different matter.

Maybe this thread is too close to home and it upsets the Ellis Men and Happy Clappers.
What if i reworded it to how does a football club owner escape from a club he no longer wants to be with but all the legal ownership and liabilities are in his name? What are his extrication options?

He knew the consequences when he bought us and has deep enough pockets to absorb them. I strongly suspect he saw owning a PL football team as a money making exercise and the way the TV deals are going he may well be right. He will have contacts in high places and probably could sell us on at a profit as long as we stay up and I for one think we will stay up this season. He was one of the front runners in setting up the FFP thing and that should tell you a lot about him. I for one think its a disaster for competition as it effectively ring fences the top clubs and makes it almost impossible for any side outside that elite to break in, but Ellis clearly is not worried about that.

Its a legitimate word in the field of mathematics, but used completely in the wrong context here.

I suspect Pissed one meant to use the word Extricate. ;)

I just saw your post. Yes it was extricate. Predictive text selected the other word and i posted without reading as i was on another thread, bashing Henderson.

Re-open the colliery?

Yes, but what if the people he knows aren't interested in owning the club. I know lot's of businessmen but i wouldn't necessarily want to take on their liabilities and/or mistakes.

As i said, let's forget it's Ellis and take a more global look at the situation. Are you saying the owner would have to take an enormous loss and virtually give the club away? Other than that, to go broke and/or fold. I assume Ellis/the owner currently has enough to cover the loss if he wants to but maybe he might have had enough.
In our case it would appear the rewards for getting promotion back to the PL wouldn't be enough to excite Ellis. He doesn't seem to value our PL status.
