Deluded mags part 69876

When I'm eating me Christmas dinner I won't give a shit about possession statistics and I wont give a shit about shots on or off target statistics.
I'm sure when they are eating their Christmas Dinner the Mags will give a shit about the result, and that is that we won 0-1, making it 0-3, 2-1, 0-3, 0-1. Happy Christmas to Mag fans everywhere.

Dunno like, a great run and all that, but that single goal we conceded in the last 4 games against them still hurts.

This. Thought it was just me. It would have hit the top of the crossbar and ballooned up or gone behind. Top corner my arse.

I thought it would have clipped the underside of the bar and either went in or bounced down. Impossible to say without one of those computer reconstruction things. Either way, it does not matter. It is not like "Did the ball cross the line in '66?", it is did Pants save it then Sunderland go on to win the game from their corner? Hell yeah, we did :)

Nee chance, not going in at all

The way I see it is they came at us first 15 minutes we weathered it and were the better side for the rest of the half and should've been maybe 1/2-0 up the first 25/30 mins of the second half were fairly even but again we had the better chances Gomez and that header from Taylor prevented Fletcher with a certain goal. They went for it last 15 or so and really didn't create any clear cut chances just the long range it back passed where we scored and Johnson and Larrson should've scored.

Oh and this possession bollocks the mags are spouting according to the BBC it was 52-48 to them, hardly dominating.

I watched the match again today with my brother who has come to visit and hadn't seen it.

Watching without the blood up confirms my initial impression. That there was only once when I thought "shit they are bound to score here", and that was when the young lad Armstrong shot instead of passing to Sissoko who I'd noticed had ran in behind our lot. They may have scored at other times, but the close range efforts were crowded out and were nowhere near being sitters because of it. The closest they did come to scoring were the shots from Perez and Sissoko where Pants did his job superbly.

Conversely there were four times when I was on my feet and certain we would score before we actually did; Whickam's first header, Fletch's volley, Jordi's horror miss and Johnno's miss after he dribbled past Coco. These all had goal written all over them, although in Fletch's case he did nowt wrong.

We nearly ran out of it, but it was only a matter of time.

Everyone is also forgetting Larson's chance at the end which was arguably the best chance of the entire game.

The sheer cringe of our fans cheering that miss when we are 1-0 down with only a few seconds on the clock.

A lot of the crowd were obviously still expecting to get a couple of goals in the last 30 seconds. If that had went in, they were probably thinking they would have to settle for a draw at that point.

Possession is absolutely worthless in football if you don't do anything with it. I remember Mourinho's Inter team having 25% possession to Barcelona's 75%, in the Champions League semifinal, and still doing them 3-1.

If both teams had taken their goalscoring opportunities we'd have won 5-3.

Just a pisspoor attempt by the mags to claim some sort of moral victory.
