Would you want Cattermole to be successful for England?

Let's be quite honest, 75% of international football is a complete waste of time, with teams that simply shouldn't be allowed to play on the same pitch as major nations. The risk to proper sportsmen from some of these foreign donkeys is a completely pointless exercise.
Even for keen international fans there's only a handful of teams worth watching but i just don't like it at all. I would rather watch a championship game, and they're bad enough.

I have next to no interest in international football. In my opinion it spoils the football season. The media and TV companies try to generate excitement and hype but many people i know just couldn't give a f**k about it.

I can't fake an interest that isn't there.
If i was given the choice of watching newcastle get beaten in a league game or watch england in a world cup quarter or semi final it'd be newcastle losing every time.
If i had the choice of watching sunderland win a league game or watch england win the world cup it'd be sunderland every time. I wouldn't hesitate for a second.

What if Colback scored the winner for England?

I honestly couldn't give a flying f**k. I would rather watch sunderland. I get a buzz when we win. I have no feeling whatsoever when england play.
The only reason i'd reluctantly skip read an england game would be if Catts/Colback/etc played so i could answer queries from amateur fans like rocky etc.

Canny feather in his cap and increases his value for the club. But on the downside, what's in it for us supporters?
  • Risk of injury
  • Bids we cant refuse from a big club
  • Cattermole cant handle the pressure and loses form (happens to a lot of players who get capped)
  • Pay rise demands

It's a no for me.
Playing well at the minute...but not England quality...he would be found out by top class opposition unfortunately.

A further excuse to watch England when the prem has a blank weekend for internationals. Would justify upcoming trips to Germany and Italy.:cool:

Let's not have successful internationals at our club with the potential to pursuade other internationals to join us....we lost bent due to allegedly having his head turned by the England manager!!

Great post btw

Only ginger's get a hat. The FA stick it in the post a week before the match.

You're using this injury card like the f**king joker on "It's a Knockout". I wasn't even sure he was injured for the second game of the two. One commentator said he was traveling out there.
Oh aye?

Which commentator was that then?

It was either a SKY commentator or news reporter. I didn't pay too much attention and assumed his injury wasn't too bad. I would say that he didn't clarify if Colback was going to play or just go for the experience.

So you're not sure if it was actually a commentator or a reporter? Aye, sounds like you weren't paying much attention so maybe you misheard what they said.

And, even if you didn't: who would trust anything a 'SKY source' says anyway?

I sit in the next room to the tv and half watch it through glass. I'm 99.9% certain it was on sky sports news but it wasn't a big deal to me. His injury came out of the blue just like his call up.
There was a bit of confusion when he was about to miss the first game until it was confirmed he was heading back to newcastle for treatment.
I don't think it's a case of trusting sky sports, i think it was early days and his injury was still being assessed. It couldn't have been major as he was back with newcastle for their next game or so.

Either way, i said he'd get an england call-up and he did. Somehow he managed to queue jump the list of 50 players ahead of him in the pecking order that the wise men on this forum had posted up previously.

I personally think international football is the pinnacle of the sport,as a kid you dream of playing in a World Cup Final.

I am proud to be English and can't understand why any Englishman would not want them to do well.

Surely people want England to win the World Cup don't they?

I can't fake an interest that isn't there.

Can't believe you rather watch Newcastle get beat, than watch England in a World Cup semi final, if that true that's very sad IMO.

I still think he just lacks that bit of quality at the top level.......the odd lapse of concentration and the odd loose pass can be very expensive at International level. I'd like to see him get a cap as recognition for his efforts but I'm not convinced he'll get one.
Hodgson is not brave enough IMO

He'd only impress in an England shirt in games where there backs would be against the wall. Against top class opposition.

That never happens in qualifiers and friendlies are meaningless. He'd never look great playing in a 2-0 win against Estonia imo.
This , but he would be a bell of a player to have on the bench to close out an important 1-0. We don't have anything since scholes went

What a stupid question.

Also, do not agree that he would only look good against the top teams. A lot of his qualities lend themselves to defensive actions however, he also has many attacking actions.

Can press high up the pitch, something that England need to start to do TBH. Has a high average pass length which shows positivity. Has more forward passes than most, again positivity. High successful take ones. These are all compared to the ginger Pirlo BTW. Still, shows he is not just defensive.

I dislike newcastle more than i love england.
I can only relate to the feelings when i watch each team play. I get a buzz when sunderland score or win, it gives me an instant kick and i'm happy. When newcastle lose i get a similar feeling but not as intense. When england play i have no feelings either way. I don't necessarily want them to lose but i get no buzz in either direction. Watching england play means nothing to me, i would go as far to say i get more of a buzz out of coventry losing.

Fair enough mate up to yourself ,just find it difficult to understand, can totally see where you are coming from wanting Sunderland to win before England in fact most would agree with you.

But preferring watching another team from your own to lose rather than watching England win is something I will never be able to understand, but hey guess that football fans today.

It's only that i get no real feelings when england score or win to compare.
Do you get no feelings if newcastle lose?? I watched a stadium of our fans celebrate their relegation like we had won a trophy. If you'd gone around the stadium that day and say england win or newcastle relegated what do you think the vote would be???
