Negativity of our fans

@Bangkok Blackcat quotes again :lol:
Wouldn't necessarily agree with that tbh. Like I said in my other post, I might not agree with someone, but you can spot the lads who go to games and care for the club a mile off, even of they have a negative view or opinion on something. @gipetto for eg. He gets stick for being negative atm, but you can tell its because he cares and gives a shit. I don't agree with some of what he says, but I can see his point even if I don't agree. Think the ones your on about, there isn't that many tbh. Certainly not enough for the amount of these type of threads, that imo are the real thing that is dragging this forum down if anything.

Why were we awarded the best fans in the league. Is it because we are so negative?
Must be mate. Same as why we travel in our thousands, have done for years. Same as the thread about the Burnley forum, same as why our average attendance for ages is ridiculous compared to how we have played or where we sit in the league. All to popular and common it seems for some and some actually get a kick out of having a winge about other fans. Surely I'm not the only one who thinks that is much worse and pathetic, to someone who says something negative on an internet forum. People have different views and opinions, its football and its our club. I wouldn't want it not to stir peoples emotions. We pride ourselves on being passionate and caring about our club more than most. That comes with the emotions that are attached to it.

We've started a bit better than we did last season.

It's not the best of benchmarks really is it? I'm looking forward to seeing Alvarez play and hopefully the more time the players spend with Poyet the sooner they understand his system and the better we become.

and a measure of success in this business is?
Depends which angle you're coming from.

For the fans - could be from titles and trophies to promotion or simply avoiding relegation
For the manager - a good win %
For the owner - ultimately, a healthy club that makes a profit
For the media - a top four side

Either way, we've over-spent in recent years so the owner is looking to do things differently.

It's such a shame as well because we've normally we've got so much to be positive about, and everything the club does tends to turn out really well.

Going by the recent Alvarez threads its unbelievable how f***ing negative we are as fans of this club

Embarrassing really
I think you're confusing the sentiment of a lot of the knackers on this forum as being representative of Sunderland fans as a whole.
I don't think it is at all. Sunderland fans are no more negative than any other set of fans.
You've got to remember this place is full of mags, mags pretending to be Sunderland fans and wind up merchants.
Lot of good posters on here too though.

We're still in the PL, been to a Cup Final & are balancing the books, which helps I guess! There has been too much money wasted by previous managers, so you can't blame Short for eventually being cautious with his cash.
Plus, there are some bang average players on sackless money, which in turn pushes up expectations of better players, which puts them out of our reach at the moment - High wage bills mean high ticket prices, which also upsets the punters.
Once we reflect we're a stable club and not a grave yard for managers then we may look a more attractive prospect to future players. I fully appreciate that people will not be happy all the time & they have every right to voice opinions. However, there are some hyenas out there who thrive on negativity..........

You stole my thoughts.

It would have been a better start if the title had been 'The negativity of some of the fans who post on this forum'.

staying up by the skin and losing a cup final is not success by any measure.

none of the above for us then

Leeds fans have been let down, Portsmouth fans, Sheff Utd. But Sunderland fans have been let down? Recently? Really?
try comparing us to our piers and not lower league shit , cant believe you think folks on here fall for that bull.

Very informative reply, you've obviously got all the answers. Considering your reply; this season lets get relegated, waste a shit load of money on gash players while paying them stupid amounts whilst teetering on the brink of financial ruin and not bother with any cup runs - does that sound better, because we've been there, done it and got the t-shirt.
If its overnight success and a mantelpiece full of cups and medals you want right now then best look elsewhere - we have a relatively new manager with a relatively new team and hopefully a long term strategy, personally after the turbulence and uncertainty we've been through lately, I'll settle for some simple stability and building for the future.
Seriously mate, if you think you can do any better please feel free to send your CV in to Mr Short, you could be the one we're all waiting for. ;)
