Cattermole for England?

Always rated him as a player, but his improvement under Poyet has been fantastic. Far more disciplined these days.

most improved player under Poyet hands down..

closely followed by Brown and O'Shea - we'd be deep in the clarts if we lost either of these two and they are as old as the hills !

The fact that Bridcutt was pretty much signed to be Cattermole's replacement, but now can't get a game speaks volumes of the esteem that Poyet holds Cattermole.

Amazing the change of opinion of him on here in such a short period.

Last season apart from Rocky and a few others, everyone was calling him a liability and wanting Gus to get rid.

We should remember this when we abusing Fletcher and Altidore who could very well come good as well

If he keeps his head straight this season he could really make a case for the England squad. We've been here before though.

Some player on form though.

I doubt anyone ever seriously doubted his ability to play the Makerleleecattermole role. Many doubted his ability to stay on the pitch for 90 mins without being seriously hampered by the threat of a second yellow though.
I banged on and on about him being Robin to Canas Batman and the need to find an experienced Cana replacement to pull his strings or operate him like a ventriloquists dummy.

England is surely out of the question as he wouldve been red carded in an international match yesterday. The PLs a lot more easy going card wise than International football except when Howard Webbs reffing WC Finals.

What on earth suggests that to you?

Absolutely this! Poyet isn't as stupid as some think! He really knows how to instill confidence in his players and get them playing good football, he also knows that it takes time to do this, but there are some narrow minded folk here that expect an immediate impact.

We're gonna have a decent season this year providing we're not plagued by injuries.

Absolute bollocks.

You must be reading a different message board to me then!

Not at all. I just realise that of the several thousand posters registered on the SMB only a fraction of those get involved in "yes he is, no he isn't" threads.

We've got a small pocket of posters with unwavering dislike towards certain players, and Cattermole is just one in a very long list.

What makes me laugh is people in the media talking Colback up for England when we know without a shadow of a doubt Catts is head and shoulders above the ginger one!

Not many sensible posters will call it based upon a handful of performances mind. Cattermole, like Fletcher is now, had been poor overall for an awful long time. If he'd gone in January it would have been fully justified. Altidore's a strange one, almost a self fulfilling prophecy. People were after him from the minute he stepped on the pitch.

Cattermole hasn't been poor for a long time though, that's bollocks. He's always had good spells.

I love Cattermole but he's still way off the England squad imo.

If and its a big IF he can replicate the form towards the end of the season and do it consistently for the upcoming season then maybe.

Plus he isnt a fashionable player and he plays for Sunderland. Even if he manages all of the above unfortuntaly i'd still not expect him to get picked.
Mate if cleverly can get cattermole can but the FA will put a block on it

When/how could he have been sent off like???? I can't remember anything remotely close to this

IMHO bringing in Bridcutt has made Catts play better, cos' he has learnt to use his brain, or found that he had one!

I disagree. At the time the sale was on he was more than expendable. A walking red card, prone to errors and of suspect fitness and character following his involvement in the Di Canio business. He would have gone had Poyet been able to get one of his other targets over the line, and Bridcutt had already come in which indicated his feelings toward Cattermole at that time. One good game then three or four horror shows. Credit to the lad for getting back on the right track - he's been superb so far this season.

Absolute tosh...from the WC and other internationals, it is the refs in the English Premier league that seem intent to stop football being a contact sport overseas refs let a lot more go than Twatkinson yesterday...he seemed to be auditioning for the vacant Webb role at times..
