Cattermole for England?

well he was a million times better than cleverly today! but we already knew that!
he's also far better than ginger jack!
or he was until ginger jack instantly became world class when he signed for them kernts!

He's the best available player in a position they are desperate for. He'll get nowhere near the squad.

Well if we're picking on form, his must be up there at the moment. What a turnaround.

I suspect his style's not cut out for International football though - even when he's behaving it looks very rough and tumble.

I don't think it's such a far fetched idea that he could be named in a squad next year if he can keep up his current form.

Lots of variable though, like his form, our form (much more likely to be picked if we are looking ok and not relegation candidates toiling in the bottom 3), how the current CM candidates perform this year and if he can realign his reputation among neutrals from 'walking red card, leg breaking thug' (which is still how 90% of people still see him) to dependable, consistent, strong CM who is comfortable with the ball and a leader on the pitch (how most of us see him now).

Still would be very very shocked if it happen though.

England could certainly do a lot worse.

The one thing they lacked last night was someone who could press and harry Uruguay's players. Gerrard and Henderson playing as deep as they were was truly insipid.
Cattermole is exactly what England are missing FFS.

In my view, it's to some degree his own fault. He was selected for his country at every level from the Under 16's right through to the under 21's. Fact is he got way more caps at under 21 level than at any other and deservedly so. His lifestyle, lack of general fitness and consequent off the field antics, plus his largely average form and progression since then played a part in ending his time on the International front, no question about that for me. Fair play to the lad though, he's responded positively to the decisions and actions taken by Di Canio and Gus and has stepped up to the plate. He's 26 now, playing well and approaching his best years, if he can kick on from here he'll make it incredibly difficult for the selectors to ignore him.

The lad was immense yesterday. I would to think I inspired his performance when he picked up a loose ball in the warmup near the advertising boards where myself and the boy were stood. I'm normally cool as a cucumber but I dunno what came over me! I screamed ha'way catts!! Ha ha!!!

We all know the routine. If he keeps producing top class performances he'll be given an opportunity in some meaningless friendly against The Maldives or Tonga just to pay lip service. Then he'll be binned for the some fifth choice second string reserve with one of the top four.

no chance it will happen but if there are any English players playing his role better than he has been for a lot of months then they are bloody good.

The media would slaughter an England manager who selected Cattermole

If he learns to cut out the Macho stuff, he's absolutely good enough. But he's been questioned several times on that and says its part of his game and so long as he keeps it up he jeopardises his qualities which are a very good reading of the game defensively and excellent man marking/strong tackling while on his feet, as well as a good distribution and movement in the centre.

But so long as he thinks flying in and shouting at refs is a natural part of his game he dosent want to change he's shooting himself in the foot and will always be in danger. Cabaye is an excellent example of how you can get away with the dark side of tackling if you have the sense to pretend it was an accident.
