Mag at work, a proper 1992'er who's never been to a match in his life has put £100 @1000/1 on the mags to win the league and £50 on them to finish top 4  He brought the betting slip in to prove it, even all the other mags were ripping the piss out of him. He genuinely thinks come May he'll be in the money ffs

I will give anybody 4000/1 for the mags to win the league.

And you lot reckon we are deluded.

It's not deluded to think you will finish above the mags lmao,

Got talking to one on Satda in The Cumberland Arms in Tynemouth and he was a decent enough bloke until he trotted out the " I reckon we can challenge the top four again" line and backed it up with " we still have Cisse to come back as well"...

Shame we were leaving as I fancied a pint of what he was having ( The next pub down is the priory he probably went there next to get sorted out)...

Lad at work is going way over the top about what they can do this season based on watching one game which they lost 2 nil at home haha fuckin unbelievable recons they will finish top 6!! I burst out laughing like.

was speaking to one "you had no shots on target"? to which he replied "perez one deflected wide, cabella over the bar, had a header over the bar" totally serious as well

If the roles were reversed we'd be exactly the same. That goes for every club by the way, it's not a downer on Sunderland supporters. You only have to look at the new breed of Man City supporter beginning to appear to know it's true. Although the North East does have a particularly potent brand of desperation when it comes to winning something important.

Mind you, it is still funny cause they won nowt despite all the plaudits

Do you seriously consider yourself as a mid table club ? If so why ?
It's more a case of where we will realistically have a chance of finishing. A good season for us as we are would be a season where relegation isn't really a threat and a half decent cup run.

We may struggle if it doesn't go to plan, we know this, but mid table is achievable. You lot challenging for the top four is frankly f***ing ridiculous.

As yourself this, do you really think you're as good as Man United, Man City, Chelsea, Spurs, Arsenal, Liverpool or Everton? If you finish 8th that is a good season for you and will be exactly where you realistically should be.

My point is that he said other clubs outside the area aswel as himself see sunderland as a mid table club, not about where you think you could finish.
To go from constantly being in a relegation dog fight to thinking 10th is a possibility, when their hasn't been a remarkable improvement to the squad is as optimistic as going to 6th from 10th.
To answer your question, no I think we come in after the teams you list but I also thought that when we finished 5th, a season where we were a lot of peoples choice to go down.

I think the concern you would have based on yesterday is that you've lost 3 of your best players in Cabaye, Remy and Debuchy and have you replaced them with like ability? You competed well yesterday but that a minimum. I know you have De Jong to come in but its not automatic that foreigners settle. I don't expect Newcastle to struggle as such but its going to be a real stretch to get above 9th or 8th.

I agree. 8th 9th 10th is realistic. Remy hasn't been properly replaced, cabaye out for De Jong / Cabella seems decent business but nobody knows how it will pan out. Janmaat looks good and has played highest level so probably much of a muchness with the decent but not excellent Debuchy.
Add in a dodgy defence that hasn't improved and a simpleton in the dug out so who knows how it will go.

Seen a couple of things over the past few weeks on social networking sites posted by Mags saying they have made some amazing signings and have high expectations for this season. This was further evidenced when my Mag father in law was watching the Arsenal match and was cheering Palace on. I asked why he wanted Palace to win and he said cause he viewed Arsenal as a rival to NUFC this season. Based on their squad, goals they've lost with Remy going back to QPR I would have put them in mid table at best or have I missed something that would suggest they could be challenging the top 4?

Newcastle fans are known all across the land as the most deluded set of supporters in the country, they just can't help themselves mouthing off.
