'Just a finger spinner'

Played against a mate of mine a few years back. He nipped the opener out caught behind and Moeen came in at number 3. Slapped him for three consecutive sixes

By all accounts Ali is more aggressive to the short ball in county cricket. For England he seems to be more defensive, not wanting to get out to it. I think he should play his natural attacking game. Either duck and get out of the way or hook and pull them.

R.e Boycott, I think he just says things to be controversial. Typical of a WUM.

He isn't facing many 90mph+ bowlers in County Cricket though.

you can be defensive to the short ball whilst keeping your eye on it though, he f***ing bricks it whenever it gets near him.

boycoutt is a wum and usually gets right on my tits. nowt worse than him and the sycophantic worm vaughan, eeee arrrr yarkshire blah blah blah

True true.

Ali does need to work on the short ball like you're right, if he can improve his batting just like he has with his bowling, he'll come good.

I don't normally mind Boycott, but he does have a tendency to come across like a bitter Yorkshire twat at times.

No one can argue with the results hes had against one of the best teams of spin bowling.

That said, i still dont feel he's too flash tbh... Time will tell, I hope I'm wrong but his bowling doesnt seem much better than that of say a Graeme Hick imo.

or to put another spin on it [arf arf] if his bowling continues to progress he would warrant a place in teh side anyway, even if it was at 8/9 with stokes stepping up into the middle order

Ali already got as many test wickets as Hick took in his entire career.

The bloke is bowling at 2,200 rpm. He's going to be a great bowler

Thats how shit the standard of test Cricket is these days compared with that in the late 80s & 1990s ;)

Aye young un, if only John Emburey, Robert Croft, Ian Salisbury and Eddie Hemmings had bowled against the hopeless batsmen today. Might have got their averages down to under 40...

DRS back in the day would have helped getting LBWs on the front foot. Swanny wouldn't have got 25% of his wickets without it.

Boycott re: Ali. Disrespectful old windbag.

Never heard him slag off Underwood, Harbajhan or Jim Laker who bowled on more favourable wickets.

Ali is now the fastest English spinner to 20 wickets, I fancy him to be England's first choice twirler for several years to come.

Boycott says the odd good thing, and I used to like him when I was younger, but now I have got older, he really does speak a load of nonsense all of the time. Needs to show some respect. There is also this myth that bowlers were faster in his day, I think the average speed of fast bowlers has increased through time, but anything to diminish his legacy is rejected.

Has done well but wait till his bowls against Australia that will be the proper test

Totally disagree, it will be a bigger test of his batting, but he is playing some top class international batsmen who would work into the Australian side. Don't agree with that.

It's a different ballgame altogether the ashes. Australia will no doubt target the lad with bat and ball, the point I am making is let's see how he comes away from that.

Nobody wants him to do well more than me.
