The future of Fabio Borini, meanwhile, remains unresolved.
The Italian returned home early from Liverpool’s tour of the USA with a shoulder injury, and has been deliberating over a possible £14m switch to Sunderland.
The Wearsiders would ideally like a decision from Borini this week, but Liverpool are keen not to part with the 23-year-old until a suitable replacement has been identified.
Borini fuelled speculation he would be moving to the North East by ‘favouriting’ a Tweet confirming Sunderland’s £10m signing of Jack Rodwell from Manchester City on Tuesday.
Elsewhere, young Liverpool defender Rafa Paez is expected to join Italian Serie B outfit Bologna on a season-long loan deal.

Old news that man, also pure speculation. Ponteland Mackem has ITK info from two sauces and someone has tweeted that there mate saw Borini in a jeep

Surely the bit in bold is just tough titties as they have already accepted a bid for Borini so can't really hinder a deal further no matter what they are keen or not keen on

I'm pretty sure they can pull the plug if they want to keep him like. Don't think they will though
