Sussex vs Durham

Captaincy has now cost us 3 defeats in this competition.

From the jaws of victory we've grabbed defeat. Shocking results and where is our so called Super Coach John Lewis hiding ???

So that's Somerset 106/5 and chase 315 to beat us

Kent 154/6 chase 274 to beat us

And Sussex 191/7 chase 288 to beat us.

It isn't a coincidence. A mixture of poor captaincy and dire bowling is killing us.

We clearly had the upper hand in all the games. Rocky looks clueless and cannot believe he didn't ask Colly for advice.
Never saw him taking to Colly once.

We were dominating every game but for some reason there has been a huge momentum change in each game (lost impetus?) and we don't seem to have a f***ing clue how to deal with it.

Difficult to know what to say about that.

Lewis is of course in his first full season as a coach but has pulled up no trees. Stoneman is clearly learning on his feet here and has not really led the side very well. Frankly I have no idea why he was given the captaincy. He looked to be the last person you would give it to as he simply doesnt to me have the personality to carry it off. The bowling at the death has been really poor. The bowlers seem to be playing the situation rather than just bowling normally and that last Hastings over was shameful. what sort of instruction was he being given by the captain there?

Very poor defeat in what is fast turning out to be a very poor season.

Rushworth seems to bowl a good 3/4 overs, gets taken off then comes back on later to be twatted around the park.

I called how shit his captaincy was last season but had the likes of @rentaghost shouting me down iirc.

Agreed and don't forget Worcestershire needing 42 off 3 overs and Leicestershire wanting 26 off 2 in the 2020s beating us with tailenders..

Our performances as a unit including the captain and senior bowlers at the death haver been utterly abysmal. When Arafat and Beer starting getting dots and nudging ones you could see that we were allowing them to play themselves in and as soon as the first boundary came we yet again lost the plot. Its hard to see what score Durham need to defend........ 400?.

We learn nothing.

Rushworth cannot bowl at the death, Borthwick relies 100% on confidence yet he's taken off when bowling well and we don't turn the screw at times like 191-7.

Hastings last over said a lot about where Durham's one day season is going. Losing is one thing but to consistentyl chuck games like we have and seemingly learn nothing is poor.

We just don't seem to learn anything at all from previous games, played 3 before today and batted 1st twice and lost, bowled 1st and won, then decide to bat 1st again and lose. Out of the 6 games played today, 5 of the teams batting second won and the 6th tied.

Disappointing all round.

I keep hearing the words "wasp says a 6% chance for Sussex to win from here".

Absolutely laughable. Will Beer has been playing since 2006 & doubled his previous highest score (27 ) tonight.... Yasir usually bats 9 or 10 & averages next to fuck all.

Apart from Collingwood i cant think of anyone who has been consistently good in limited overs cricket for us this season. They have all been poor/below average all too often this season.

I don't think batting first or second comes into this......? The other games for me have no bearing on our game. What does have a bearing is the fact we had the opposition needing 97 with only 3 wickets left and conspired to abosloutely throw it away.

What more, the other two games were an exact carbon f***ing copy. So for me it's got nothing to do with the decision at the toss. We should be top of the table with 4 wins for fuck sake .

I've watched the game tonight on a delay as I had to nip out and with Scotty bowling like Mushtaq Ahmed and having them on the canvas taking a long 9 count it thought we were a f***ing shoe in, sending texts about left right and centre on how well we were playing - no doubt the recipients thought I was a right f***ing mug knowing what they knew in real time.

What's that what Einstein said about Insanity......? Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results......? For that see our captain and our bowlers.

Oh and we should've pissed 320 on that wicket too.

So who or what part of our game is to blame?? Take your pick.
