Because its exactly the same error v Villa. Dwelling on the ball instead of keeping it simple. He was robbed from Negredo, I could understand if it was Aguero whos just too fast but I must be quicker than Negredo.

Its a simple pass he takes a bad touch unaware of his surroundings, its poor play that costs us yet another goal. That's not fantastic play by Man City, its footballing basics.

He's being put into a position where he's often deep collecting the ball and the aim is keeping possession, naturally not being the most gifted if pressed he's going to have the odd problem, because the whole team philosophy isn't about "keeping it simple" that's why Brown, O'Shea and others have had similar problems. Ideally you would have someone more gifted in the role, but it doesn't mean he's not a valuable player for us. As for Negredo closing him down, the speed which is a team attack or close down as a unit isn't necessarily borne out by how fast individuals can run. If it were then Citeh with Negredo and Dzeko, Milner and Silva all playing regularly wouldn't score many counter attacking goals or win the ball in the final third.

Funny that considering he went to Wigan because he couldn't get a game for Boro, hardly captain fantastic. Also was played out of position, so he wasn't exactly rated at Boro.

That's just not true though. He was a regular for most of his time there and had been captain. He had off field issues which saw him out of the side for a short while and moved partly due to those. He played out of position earlier in his career at 17/18 and then had a short spell when they were short, though the management of him and Boro at the time is hardly vindicated by what they were doing is it>?

I've had my ups and downs with Catts. I remember standing a Wigan wanting to personally drum him out of the club.

However, all through this one thing that has always endeared him to a sunderland fan.

His effort, commitment, desire and fight.

He is a limited footballer to a degree but he gives his all on the field.

That alone is a contributory factor in the "love" in.

If we sold him to Stoke in January we would have been relegated and that alone is enough for every sunderland fan to extend their appreciation.

Would have been down if he was sold in jan. Showed everything that is great about the lad in the last few months of the season and was immense against west brom. Yes he gets caught out at times but only cause he doesnt go hiding and constantly looks to get on the ball. The 1 player in our side I would be gutted if we sold.

TBF you can point to matches we should have won but for him and his sendings off, bans and all round fuckwittery

Sure he led us away from relegation, played a heroes part and began to show the form everyone knew he had but rarely maintained.
But the current fashion of PF posters for cat worship is no more than an embarrassing adolescent crush. You know you will all regret it and even deny it before ten matches are played this season.
He has proven too often how easily he can let us down in those bread and butter matches. I would compare him to a reformed alcoholic. I would trust him no more than one day at a time. When he screws up we will need Bridcutt and be sure, if Catts screws up more than once Gus will not tolerate it, he will be off to Hull in January.
He's a poor man's Gazza, one step away from losing it big time and a highly "excitable boy". Sister Clare might have knocked him into shape.

He hasn't played 160 PL games like, not at all. Also how many has he actually started?
To be fair, Wikipedia says he made 150 appearances as a Premiership player. However, in my view, Banks has made valid points. Cattermole did start his Sunderland career well but lost his way for quite some time personally with on field disciplinary problems and off field discipline problems affecting him. This past season, at times, he has looked on top of his game, a true leader and good player. But, at other times, he has been awful along with the majority of players on show. I think he has generally looked good in a very poor team for most of the season but that is relative to overall quality. If Cattermole plays this season as he finished last and cuts out stupid mistakes then he will contribute to The Lads having a good season. But, then again, that could be said of many of the others players on show last season.

If you want to compare him with players being premiership class due to length of time I raise you Andy Wilkinson of Stoke god awful footballer with 160 premier league games experience.

Andy Wilkinson is 30 years old, and has actually played 122 PL games to be exact. He is a squad player at his hometown club. He has also had a succession of loans and spent several years outside of the PL.

Lee Cattermole is 4 years younger at 26, and has already played 200 PL matches. He has captained every team he has played for, and barring 1 injury hit season under PDC, has played 20+ games (all comp) a season from the age of 17 onwards.

Wilkinson has only made 196 appearances in his entire career, and he's 30 - and a decent amount of those were not in the PL.
Cattermole has made 243 career apps at 26, and has never played outside of the PL.

I understand the point, Wilkinson has made a PL living for a few years at Stoke despite being very limited. However, the way Stoke have played has been very limited, and notably since Hughes arrival, and the subsequent change of style, he's barely kicked a ball for them.

On the other hand, Poyet went out and signed his personal favourite Bridcutt to directly replace Cattermole (who Stoke ironically bid 6m for) and yet Cattermole is still here, and is still 1st choice.

not likening him to Gerrard football wise but Gerrard gets away with a lot that Cattermole gets punished for
Gerrard is a genuinely dirty k.unt. Cattermole is just stupid. I've never seen Cattermole make a genuine assault on an opponent, I've seen Gerrard do it many times.

Hes absolute horse shit.
I'm not sure whether you're a match going skunk or a stay at home tit, bit I've seen Lee Cattermole dominate 'Mr T' from start to finish at sports direct.com@StJamesPark
