Borini

So you're advocating tapping him up?

You need to have a bid accepted before talking to a player. As will have already been said, this has happened several times in the past where we have had bids accepted and the player ultimately has decided against signing for this club. This process doesn't change just because the lad played here last season. Sunderland will have had no contact with Borini himself. Maybe the agent gave out some sound bites, which is in no way an indication of the player's actual intentions.

Another one i keep hearing is he will still be sorting his loyalty bonus out so does not want to appear too eager to leave. Surely, any pay-off can not be comprimised seen as the club made the decision to accept a bid.

I would be absolutely astounded if we hadn't asked him about it while he was here, infact it would be negligence in my view. I'm not advocating tapping up but i'm saying it definitely happens - and asking if there is an interest is not discussing terms IMO.

The problem is Rodgers when asked by Borini face to face if he's still wanted at Liverpool says yes. He even plays him in all the friendlies. Rodgers is the sticking point no one else.

Driving his value up. You want him so I'll make sure I present him as a marketable option. He's got loads of potential this lad, I rate him and he'll cost you....

I would expect him to continue with his team tour of America and no say anything derogatory in either direction on Twitter until his actual contract is agreed and sign (or rejected). I don't think there's anything to read either way into his Twitter entries or the fact that he is on the LFC pre-season tour

That's pretty naive.

We had him for a full season last year and will have his agent's number on speed dial. Do you think the the club just hoy bids in for players without doing any background research on whether the player would be interested, how long a deal they'd be looking for, what sort of salary they'd want? Why spend days, weeks or month trying to negotiate a fee (and payment terms / structure) just for the player to turn around and say he's not interested or for the salary to be too rich?

On that basis, why does a club even bid for some players. Open your eyes, how many times has it happened in the past where the fees have been agreed and the player has baulked at the thought of signing for Sunderland long-term?

He came here last season, on loan, with nothing to lose. To raise his stock. It's incredibly naive to think the lad now has some long-term attachement to the club. Fabio Borini does not want to be contracted long-term to a club who are perenial relegation strugglers. That clearly shows given the happenings of the past few days.

SSN reporting that we're still very confident of signing Borini while showing his goal against Man City in the back ground. Then the divvy lass says, "so they're being very busy in the North WEST ......" sad really isn't it?

What do you mean what reception would he get? Those who would boo would be the same people who boo their own players off because they didn't like him

I cant think of too many times actually. Only couple that stand out is Baines and that lad that we flew over last summer and that was because better options came in for them late in the day. If those late alternatives didn't come in, I've no doubt those players would have signed. Generally agreeing a fee with the selling club is the most prolonged part of a transfer deal.

I agree with your second bit though. No reason to think he'll not want to consider his other possible options before finally committing. If there's not a better alternative then I'd expect the deal to go through on the terms that were mentioned prior to SAFC agreeing a fee.

I forgive her though, for being ultimately sexual.

She not on about Liverpool?

Agreed, he obviously doesn't want to come here and if he does it will be under duress. Hardly the ideal circumstances under which we should take on a player.

Let's not get too precious about this. He's a talented lad and may well have other options in the pipeline. Perhaps a club in Europe is waiting to sell a player for decent money to allow them to match the fee we've agreed. Maybe Borini wants to weigh up every option while still remaining professional and fulfilling his duty to Liverpool. Maybe his new fiancee doesn't fancy a move up here as it would be to the detriment of her career. A million and one things could be going through his head.

We've had average players who have cartwheeled up the M1 at the thought of playing for us and that hasn't turned out too grand for us. How about we give it a chance to play out and accept that playing for SAFC isn't the lifelong ambition of many top professionals.
