The battle of bath lane

Who started it?

Well newcastle were waiting along the route pretty much from the train station to the ground for one reason only. Being factually correct it didn't kick off until that pub but as i said, it was warming up from the train station onwards as word went around we we'd arrived.

In my opinion the mighty mags bit off way more than they could chew. They were put on the back foot from the very start and never recovered. Any mag who says otherwise either wasn't there or is a complete bullshitter. They were in front of us and couldn't stop our advance to the ground. They were getting battered and scattered left right and centre. Humiliated on their own patch.
It was a f**king great day on and off the pitch.

End of day if a bunch of half wits want to meet up in a secluded area and kick ten bells out of each other because they support diffrent sides then let them crack on I suppose. My objection is idiots doing it in and around the public.

No wisdom required to clearly see just how moronic a bunch of blokes having a fight over their differing footballing allegiances is to be honest.

Absolutely but it does happen Mr J.
Remnants of the 70's and 80's.
Sunderland have never been the worst mind.
Even Boro offered more than us.
However, hooligans are needed.
Other clubs have them, we need them too, a threat to avoid a threat.
Lets not dress it up any other way.
Even if it is distasteful , it is a real thing that happens.

If you weren't dragged into it why do you give a flying fuck

Really? Thought it was perfectly put to be honest.

Who is TLR? Any relation to MBH who I am also apparently a reincarnation of?

My Boy Harry was a cricket lover and a wannabee SAFC historian, whose son, I believe, plays(ed) for Durham County. The TLR was probably in the thick of the battle of Bath Lane.

I've never denied it happens just find it absolutely pathetic and cowardly. Hunting in packs. Real blokes would get in a ring with other like minded blokes in order to get rid of any pent up aggression or to settle differences. Fights can occur and dare say just about everyone on this board will at some point have been involved in one but when it's happening on a regular basis it's a pretty poor reflection on said person.

Are you MBH

I have no idea who TLR is but I can assure you football hooliganism really isn't my bag. I'm not MBH either for the millionth time.

Fortunately it is avoidable.
Unless you look for it, you can avoid it.
Casuals only look for other casuals apparently.
Knowing this, you can avoid them and their Stone Island coats.
Obviously mistakes occur and the innocent may suffer.
Frankly this is sheer bad luck though.
Football will always have knobheads though sadly.

Correct.

And as someone mentioned , getting back to the station was no walk in the park either.

When you are at SJP this season getting escorted by robocop to and from the station with no real threat apart from a few noisy fuckers shouting abuse , spare a thought for some of us older generation and what we had to suffer in the name of supporting the lads.

This, without a doubt,

Some young gobshites today haven't got a f***ing clue and would have shit themselves in them days.

Don't mind admitting I did

Because if idiots insist on this kind of behaviour either me or a member of my family could end up being caught up in it one day. Really find it pathetic to be honest.

What I find laughable is that I know a couple of the old seaburn casuals and they couldn't fight sleep!
Put them in a pack however!!!

Why would you or a member of your family be around 'these people' you speak of and about. You can't avoid arseholes.
Say you get the metro to the mags away you know fine well the buses will be safer. So you'd take the bus. Everyone is happy now. Bye
You've got MBH all over you

Would be out of order like.
Animals the people who attack innocent people.
Newcastle can be bad for it.
Knowing the area as I do, I take a different route in to the 03 Arena.
Even post match I sneak away, no bother at all.
Rarely have I seen trouble anyway

Who's this then

Numbers were huge, 2 football specials arrived at the same time, after the first train was stopped en route allowing the 2nd train to catch up.
The police were powerless to stop hundreds bursting out of Central station, scattering the welcoming comittee waiting outside.
After that it calmed down a bit, as we were marched in a huge line up past Pink lane towards Westgate Rd.

As others have said, it escalated at The Waterloo pub. It was packed with mags, some came outside and Sunderland fans attacked the pub. Windows were put in and the mags trying to get back inside copped it. The photo on this thread was taken outside the pub.
Onwards up bath lane and down towards the ground, fighting was breaking out all over, one of the biggest flashpoints was down near the petrol station that was on the corner, as all the mags had regrouped and were waiting there.

I think there was a later train, which arrived just before kick off, with just a few hundred on, and this lot had a bit of a rougher ride.
