Burnhopfield resign from NTSL to join DCL

Anyone heard anything about this??

New ground is very nice and will be a good addition to DCL and a loss to NTSL, they are currently 2nd bottom of division 1

If they are planning on moving i would think some of the teams further South in NTSL will be getting itchy feet as well. Sacriston and Chopwell have left over the past couple of years and both been replaced by Northumberland teams Bedlington and Alnmouth. I reckon the next team who might try to come up would be Tillside. That would be a fair journey for the likes of Lanchester and Consett.

The DCL need two to make the numbers up following the resignation of Kimblesworth last year and the pending departure of Horden - it was expected that they would be made up of two from Littletown, Beamish and Wearmouth (who have a standing association with the old coast league through their junior sides).

If Burnopfield apply to DCL, with their facilities etc, I would imagine they would be a shoe-in for one of the two spots. That would really throw the cat amongst the pigeons.

Don't forget they could potentially lose 2 more this year to the NEPL Div 1.

That's already accounted for, presently there are 10 in NEPL2, 14 in DCL1 and 11 in DCL2.

Two will go up to NEPL2 to make that division up to 12 teams. That leaves 23 teams in DCL 1 and 2 combined; which will go down to 22 with Horden's resignation. Two will then be required to make DCL2 up to 12 teams and all three divisions will then have 12.

Fair play, I didn't realise that. Mind how did they end up with a 14 and an 11??

Was going to be a 14 and a 12 but Kimblesworth resigned very late due to lack of numbers. This meant that Mainsforth were promoted to take their place in DCL1 and DCL2 were left with 11 for one season.

Had heard Shildon were resigning to go into NYSD but have heard nothing about Horden ?

Apologies - I got the two mixed up. It is indeed Shildon who are resigning to go to NYSD.

My understanding was it was facilities but there will be others on this board who will know better than me

A bit of everything I think (based on what I've heard on the grapevine, rather than any concrete info) - but would probably be based mainly on facilities. I don't think league placings will have much bearing.

It is the top two if they meet the facilities required, if they do not it goes to the next team down to forth I think it is.

So in short it is league position, as it will be in future years with the caveat that any promoted club must meet the minimum standards of ground and junior set up?

As far as I'm aware that is just within the agreed pyramid system betwen NEPL and DCL divisions - DCL are inviting applications and can consider each club on wider merit, not just league placings (as I don't think there is formal promotion to DCL2 in place from any league and DCL is therefore not obliged to take the top team(s) in any league at present).

Is there a move afoot to formally link the NEDL up to the DCL in the promotion/relegation ladder? I'm not 100% sure.

To me it seems really stupid to not have the NEDL as part of the pyramid. Unless the NEDL has specifically asked for this not to be the case(Maybe the NEDL comittee felt that clubs in their league wouldnt meet DCL criteria i dont know. Seems short sighted to me as this stops most of the clubs from being able to progress)

Very interesting thread though as once the DCL has the required clubs does this effectively become a closed shop and therefore stopping any club from moving onwards and upwards from the NEDL come 2015??

Was this not the very reason that the Durham Senior League imploded? Some of the "bigger clubs" decided they did not want to be relegated from the DSL so decided to abolish promotion and relegation, thus opting out of the pyramid system. I think the DCL will have learned from this. Ambitious clubs do not like to be told they cannot progress.

Surely though the league should consult the teams that play in it as to wether they want to be part of it or not. If i was a chairman at one of the clubs i certainly wouldnt want the league to making decisions like that which could stop my club from moving forwards. I know that some clubs will be happy to be where they are but i know for a fact as stated earlier there are at least 3 or 4 clubs in that league who do want to progress higher up the ladder - if none of these get in to the DCL this year its going to be difficult to progress as the league comittee have effectively stopped movement between leagues.

There was a vote and only 2 clubs, Boldon and Whitburn, voted to continue with the pyramid. However, Pandora had opened her box, the matter was open for debate and discussion and (if memory serves) suddenly the DCCB got involved and said that it would be intolerable for the DSL to opt out of the pyramid and remain in the County, and therefore ECB setup. At this point the NEPL opened it's arms with the offer of the creation of the NEPL 1st Division which any clubs interested in joining the NEPL structure and remaining in the pyramid could apply to join. This new league would feature promotion and relegation to and from the NEPL . This offer was gladly accepted by sufficient clubs to form the division, which diminished the ranks of the DSL, the County League and the Coast League to the extent that they were unable to function and so the DCL was created as a safety net for them.

The Sepp Blatter "you couldn't make it up" moment allegedly happened when certain officials of the now-defunct DSL which had caused all the upheaval applied for the officials' jobs at the new DCL!!:lol::lol::rolleyes:

Very well put

Not entirely - the DSL would have been a complete closed shop, whilst the DCL constitutes two tiers of a four tier ladder system. I have no idea if the plan is to link up the NEDL going forward, or whether the DCL will simply invite applications to fill vacancies as they arise after 2015 (thus leaving the door open to accept any NTSL clubs, with relatively good facilities, who get itchy feet over time). I suspect the NEDL will eventually become formally involved.
