Mags closing in on Siem De Jong...

He's Ajax's captain, he is hardly an unknown gem, he will be a good player for them.

How do you know he will be though ? His brother was meant to be. Anita was meant to be an amazing player for Ajax. He's come to the premier league and done the square root of sod all. He will be used to a system at Ajax which the mags won't play and with pardew as manager he will coach out any quality he has.

That's what am saying though. I think his performances from what I have seen and his ability means it's a good signing for Newcastle. A very good one infact.

Every signing has risk. Captain of Ajax who has own trophies each year and a good gold scoring record doesn't seem a huge risk for 7.5m.

Which trophys? Champions league ? Europa? Or domestic Dutch league in which he plays in the best team in the league with the best players.

Ok so let's discount any players from Dutch champions. It's to easy for them. He has ability and good qualities and knows where he goal is. 7.5m seems a good deal to be and worth the risk. Only reason it was that amount was last year of deal. When he was tearing it up against the champions of this country am sure most would have seemed it good value.

We signed Danny graham for 5m man. I know what risk I would rather take.

It's a personal opinion but I'd rather have jordi Gomez. The lads got a vast amount of premiership experience. Can score goals in the league. Will suit they way poyet wants to play. I think he will surprise a few people.

You are clearly unable to see through your blinkered hatred for the mags like i said yesterday, how many caps does borini have by the way
You'd think such a highly thought of player would have more caps wouldn't you? Have had better options than the mags

Good lord just seen his hopeless brother has more

 Just stop digging mate.

He's a mag therefore he's shite;). All this guff in the local press, though, that he's the anointed one who will unlock Pardew's tactical plan. It will take a hell of a lot more than a one paced player who's neither fish nor fowl to do that.

Hoof!

As an example of why I like our new 'premier league' experienced players approach. I was all excited last season when we signed one of the Italian champions 'juventus' best players. Giac. He's come into the premiership and been bang average, nothing more. He's now playing with a set of average players so that's the difference.

He's a very good player, and a lot of people need to take of their safc tinted specs.

The Mags have signed a very good attacking midfielder, while we're stuck with Jordi Gomez.

Even when Giacch has looked 'average' as you say, he still got more goals and assists than most our players last season. Quality is permanent.

Well if you say he is he must be you say the same about every player they sign

The Mags are a decent option in England tbh, after you take the big 'top 6' out of the equation they are normally the next club a player would look at.

He is though. What is your argument here btw, that he's not a good player?

I don't know he will do I, I have seen him a fair few times on tele and think he will be a good signing that's all.

@rocky

Strengths:
Pace
Heading
He brings a lot of goals from midfield, but at the same time is a very good long range passer. Like a better and more effective version of Sess.

Weaknesses:
From the games I've seen, similarly to Sess, he can go missing at times. Playing for the Mags may not help.
If Pardew plays him up top (I'd imagine the fool will) he won't be nearly as effective.

To summarize him, I would say he is a good all-round attacking midfielder. Very strong in the air and seems to get on the end of crosses arriving late into the box. Seems to be intelligent and links play very well with little one two's etc.

I honestly wouldn't have minded him here as our attacking link to the striker. We need power and ability driving through the middle. We still do not have that

 you've never seen him play
Stop talking shit
In person? No, can't say I have.

You're saying I haven't seen a lad who has been a regular starter for Ajax for years? I've seen plenty games.

Fact is which midfield looks better right now (Yes I know it's only June):

Sissoko - de Jong - Anita/Tiote

or

Catts - Gomez - Larsson
