The folly of picking the best batsman who can keep wicket, laid bare today !!
Prior's drop of Sangakkara on 28 has to be seen to be believed.
The cost of dropping the opposition's best batter could be phenomenal.
Please pick the best keeper and the rare chances that come round from top batters will be taken more often.

priors normally decent with the gloves and you need a keeper who is a decent batter

100% agree. Prior is unrecognisable as a keeper from a few years ago and until the aussies did a job on him, he was an excellent bat. Days are numbered but probably the right pick

Mustve missed that like, was it a proper dolly?

Plus why couldn't you post this in the Match thread? Are you too good for the match thread like?

Prior' s nowhere decent with gloves imo, snatches at the ball and rarely moves his feet. The drop of Sanga was laughable and he also failed to run him out by failing to collect a throw.

You mustn't have been watching England the last few year,s because he has been absolutely first class behind the stumps

A good few years ago you could throw that at him, but in recent years he has been excellent.

Disagree with this massively. Prior was a hideous keeper when he first set out but over the years has become very good. Jack Russell himself recognises Prior as the best keeper in the world and he knows a thing or two about keeping wicket. Every keeper has a nightmare moment every now and then.

I don't even agree with the principle of the argument. Most keepers excellent to average take the vast majority of chances that come there way but its no good if the better keeper is getting fuck all with the bat while the average keeper is giving the team the neck end of 50 runs when they bat.

agree with both, prior ha improved beyond recognition and re the principle it is rare that a competant keeper will end up costing a team many runs in a match and it is also rare that an exceptionally good keeper will take a catch that an ok keeper can't take, those kind of catches dont happen often, so if a keeper regularly adds 20-30 runs per innings he is outweighing extra 8-12 byes he might concede that a better keeper wouldnt

I'll bow to your superior knowledge given that Jack Russell agrees with you. Jack Russell some years back was of the view that the 2 best keepers on the County circuit we're Andrew Pratt and Phil Mustard.

it was really strange, that when it hit his chest, he looked up. sangers was walking as well. hopefully we will score 400 plus and thos extra runs wont matter. prior will never be rembered for his glovework but at present he is number 1 rightly. buttler will be similar, probably in 12 monhs time

Oh dear:oops:

Prior is a good lad to have around the team a good player and a model pro.
RUBBISH! Throw him out of the team on account of one dropped catch
