Just because someone has a different opinion than you?i hate these joke threads, so many people bite.
Anyone that actually genuinely believes cattermole should play for england, should be put out of their misery.
Good post. The likes of Cleverly and Carrick were turd last season.
We try and fit players in to a system they are not suited too Keith. I'd rather have a good specialist defensive midfielder playing that position, than a supposed 'class' midfielder like Gerrard who can not play that position.
Another thing that I don't get is the left wing position. This is a position that we don't have even an average left winger to fill.
We keep forcing the left wing position on Welbeck and Rooney(read scholes to). Yet everyone here will agree that Baines is brilliant going forward and is a wingback not an out and out lb, most will say that Shaw is potentially a fantastic lb. Baines plays on the left wing half the time for Everton anyway.
So why not try Baines on the left and Shaw at lb? Other teams have done it so why not us? wtf would we have to lose?
Baines plays like a schoolboy playing with the big lads when he plays for England, he turns into a complete melt.
MELT - Modified Eccentric Loader TerminalI think he's been poor as piss defensively, at Everton he has a genuine left winger who
works hard to protect him. He doesn't get that for England.
I'd have played Shaw but if Welbeck was in front of him or Rooney, I suspect he'd have looked like a melt to(whatever that means).
Not enough pace on the left to beat a man. He needs to have the option of cutting inside to shoot which is why he plays on the right. What about AJ at left wing!?
Don't understand this at all, he was disciplined and clever enough against Man City and they have a far better team than anyone at the world cup.England haven't had a decent ball winner since the days of Ince\Batty! We've too many 'Fancy Dans' trying to play the Hollywood pass.
I can see where the OP is coming from and agree that we need a player of this ilk - but Catts is neither disciplined or clever enough for International football.
It was the game were he lost the ball in a dangerous position and they scored?Don't understand this at all, he was disciplined and clever enough against Man City and they have a far better team than anyone at the world cup.
really why shouldn't he... I seem to remember the likes of Peter Reid and Carlton Palmer playing for England... were they any better ?i hate these joke threads, so many people bite.

He then proceeded to drive us on. I think the suggestion sounds ridiculous until you actually think about the other options for England, Cattermole is comfortably the best of them.Brown, Catts, Johnson, Wickham... Yup, about half of the England squad should come from Sunderland.
It was the game were he lost the ball in a dangerous position and they scored?
Would you agree we need a midfielder who puts his foot in and who has drive? Which defensive midfielder would you have infront of him?I got to 'in all seriousness' and have been laughing since. You should be on stage mate.
They have no defensive midfielders bar Gerrard, it was always such an obvious flaw in Hodgson's selection. It's all well and good selecting talented attacking players but you can only play so many of them at a time. Like Waddle said, you need a balance. The media undeniably play a part in pressurising the players and manager which leads to poor decisions both on and off the pitch. Only other English defensive midfielder I can think of who is better than Cattermole is Gareth Barry who had a great season at Everton, even if I'm not his biggest fan. It certainly isn't a ridiculous proposition to consider him, people laugh at the prospect because they are so attune with the media's idealistic vision of England. Not all players need to be fast or playing for a top club; sometimes you just need a battler.
Would you agree we need a midfielder who puts his foot in and who has drive? Which defensive midfielder would you have infront of him?
It depends what tactics you play.Gareth Barry. Comfortably.
I wouldn't play either of them btw, as the 'defensive midfielder' role is completely outdated.
