I'd like to add too that Mark Stoneman is the perfect example of my desire for players to bat positively. He regularly scores at strike rates above 70/80 over long periods in four day cricket. Here he has 104 of our 153-1. David Warner and Marcus Trescothick are other examples of players who bat positively whilst opening and they're not too shabby batsmen either.

I've said england have needed a player of that ilk since trescothick stepped out of the England set up.

Not at present no, but then even his failures are usually in a short time. I've always been of the opinion that if you're going to bat for 100 balls you should atleast have made 50. I think in general the better batsmen around the world do have career strike rates above 50.

After all, no matter what the format, cricket is still about scoring runs (and taking wickets) and the quicker you can tend to score runs the quicker you can get bowling to take wickets. Unless you're batting for the draw in which case I don't mind a strike rate below 50 :lol:

180-1 (36 overs) Stoneman 115* Borthwick 42*. This would be a very decent score in the One Day League :lol::cool:

185-1 - Partnership is 103 off 20.5 overs.

Stoneman dropped by the keeper on 116.

Finn bowling well here.

Borthwick 50 :p from 70 balls with 7 fours and a six. 197-1.

The run rate has just dropped under 5.00 :(

Potentially as big a mistake as Rogers' decision to field first at the toss.

Seems like a pretty good day for batting throughout the country looking at the other scores. We're far and away in the best position mind.

Long way to go but in an ideal world from the platform we have now, we should be looking to bat once in this game and declare an hour before tea tomorrow with 600 on the board

Scott Borthwick is the latest man to be dropped, again by Chris Rogers at leg slip off the bowling of Stirling. He had 90 at the time, and ran a single to bring up the second batting point, in the 55th over.

240-1


Mark Stoneman has been put down again, at leg slip on 132 off the bowling of Paul Stirling. Chris Rogers was the fielder.

Have to say I didn't notice those two drops!!

Rocky 150* from 193 balls with 23 fours.
