for tests.

he maybe right but his batting is hardly showing promise at the moment

another example of the killjoy attitude of the england management at present

other countries would shout from the rooftops about the innings, which cook described as one of the best he had seen

we will probably go back to prior missing straight balls on the walk, or foster trying to scrape a 20

source. cricinfo

he also went on to defend the top order. we are consistently losing t20 and odis, due to this top order. cook and bell play the first ten power play, like the first morning of a test.

its painful watching it.

I'm more interested about what we do about Cook.

agreed. he has been found out. little foot movement, straight balls getting him out. imo he should not play odis. as for tests, he fals for the same old tactic, straight, straight, slight inswing, then pitched a touch wide, edge c wickie or first slip

how can he defend the top order, then have doubts about buttler? if he speaking, in a way, that is how moores is thinking, then and i hate saying this, we lose both test series and the both can step down

what is there to do with him
his captaincy and batting are both uninspiring for a year now. i know we won the ashes last summer but that was despite cook playing poorly

he is one of our best test batters

historically totally correct, but he was destroyed in australia and is not showing any promise so far. he may prove me wrong, but his mentors have gone from the england management, flower and gooch, and can you really see thorpe and moores improving him?

i dont think in the history of england cricket, a captain loses 5-0 to australia and continues on serenely without any question, about his batting or captaincy.

he doesn't need improving I believe his form will return and he will get a hundred in the coming tests also think he will go on to be one of our all time greats as for the captaincy im sure he will learn.

Utterly this. He seems very quick to pass judgment. The cynics among us might suggest it is a great way of deflecting from his own obvious shortcomings

we shall see and i hope i am proved wrong but i stand by what i have posted

he has got off very lightly so far

Its just not very edifying to see him comment on others when he should address his own issues. Of course he has been good in the past on the batting front. He may do well this summer against sub continent teams - and let's hope he does- but, make no mistake, when it got hard and serious against the Aussies, he'd was found grievously wanting. No debate.

if your talking about his captaincy against the aussies maybe if you are talking about his batting everyone even the greats have few bad series he is quality and will return to form soon.

As I said, fingers crossed....

They've made clear that the C in ECB now stands for Cook.

The whole basis of the England set up is now predicted on the fact he is the top dog.

I'm amazed that people are questioning Cooks ability with the bat mind.Yes he's having a lean time but his critics should remember the same things were being said prior to our win down under couple of winters back.We have all seen what happened after that.
As for the captaincy he just doesn't inspire me and it could also be having a detrimental affect on his form with the willow at moment.

Agree

Prior should be number 1 if he is fit, but only England would pick a 34 year old Foster ahead of Buttler, he would already be in the Australian team.

England got it absolutely spot on from about 2009 to 2013, one of our greatest team but they need to change after last year, and the early signs are they really haven't.

To be fair, I think the issues highlighted on this thread have focused on his captaincy. That, and the uncomfortable truth that he is not exactly pulling up trees himself and yet pronouncing others "not ready". Whether he likes it or not, he is in the spotlight...it comes with the territory. For balance, of course, he is a talented batsman who has served England brilliantly.
