LVCC - Somerset v Durham

Starting Monday, the unbeaten champions go to Taunton.

Weather - - looks like it could play a part.

Seeing how our few precious visits to Taunton have been met by a featherbed, I don't expect our depleted bowling unit will relish this prospect. Fully expect this to be a bat first, bat once kind of track and if we could score big, the added scoreboard pressure may just add another strong to the seaming bow.

Could he wrong like, may turn out to be 200 plays 180!

So who do we think will come in for Sanga and Onions? Will Stokes have an outside chance? Will MacLeod's T20 heroics see him given a go? One thing I will say is I think we could do with Breesie's holding spin in the side if it turns out to be a flat deck.

with weather concerns and no onions it's more likely to be a bat once for both sides game....again....

as much as i don't like it i think seeing yorkshire and sussex bat us out of the game i think we have to bring in an off spinner and that will mean moving mustard up to 6 and bringing in breese or pringle [ahead of buckley for batting] perhaps both if it seems it will take spin but probably just one of them and bring harrison back in for onions.

or we could always bring in muchall.......?

why bring muchall In and if so for who lol

Muchall doesn't bowl spin.

what is it he does again....? ;)

i ment muchall come in the top 6 to replace sangakarra and bring a spinner in place of onions, then harrison possibly rotates with one of the over worked recently seamers.

not enough options without a bowler in teh top 6 for me, given the taunton track and how we've struggled recently. we are really missing stokes. tbh we are really missing blackwell - we are desperate for a reliable spinner right now, borthwick doesn't seem to be it, whether through form, trust [from teh captain] or just conditions...

just to annoy brandon, obviously

I know what you meant marra ;), I just can't entertain the idea of playing him. I'd rather see us turn to a young'en than Muchall for the 89th time. Perhaps someone like Rammy Singh or even that MacLeod. Why not give him a go while confidence will he high for him?

Plus if we're being really honest, or me atleast, I genuinely think Breese would offer more as a batsman.

All of it could make the choice to release Myburgh look a bit of a mistake seeing how weak our batting resources are when he'll be lining up against us and batting at 7, with a Championship ton already to his name this season. A case of what might have been? Certainly would've been a better spin option than Stoneman too I'd suggest.

Is Stokes not close to a return? Would England even let him play? Unfortunately it seems Muchall is going to be playing.....

breese a better batsman than muchall, haway man even you can't be that biased surely

i think stokes is soon going to start netting rather than be ready to play, could be wrong, but i think talk was of him playing for seconds very soon then be available after that. myburgb i'd imagine was more fiscal, especially considering he wouldnt be playing much if at all when everyone was fit.

macleod is a possibility but i think that depends on his bowling, has be turned his arm over for the seconds? if not i think we need to get another bowling option in, considering our last two innings have resulted in around 1200-17...

Stoneman, Jennings, Borthwick, Richardson, Collingwood, Mustard, Breese/Pringle, Arshad, Wood, Harrison, Rushworth

probably breese considering the comparative bowling stats in the t20. you're right bat wise there isn't really much more macleod could have done to get into the side but if you put him in at 4/5 and took out a bowler - one of breese/wood/harrison - i don't like the look of the attack. already doesn't look great for 20 wickets at taunton.

So you've nicked my opinion of Breese over Muchall and then proceeded to pick him in your side over Muchall ;).

As I say, his worth is in his bowling aswell and I'd have him coming in about 6/7 anyway. Probably pick the same way as you actually.

Stoneman, Jennings, Borthwick, Richardson, Collingwood, Mustard, Breese, Arshad, Wood, Harrison, Rushworth. Fitness pending.

Bowling looks light hope we win the toss and bat them out the game to build pressure, problem with somerset is their bat all the way down, will not find many better number 8 and 9 than Trego and Gregory.

Yep, bang on. Going to be a very difficult proposition.

Benjamin Stokes played for the Acadmy in the NPL today. Scored 97 with the bat and bowled 6 overs 0-21. Very decent workout by the looks of it. Could he be included in the squad for Somerset? Even if only for his batting??

Hope so we need him

Noticed we're on 5Live Sports Extra again on Tuesday for Day 2, but on Day 1 they've opted to cover MCC Women v Rest of the World.....

Is that some kind of Tea Lady duel to see who can serve up the best scones??

Seriously though, sexist jokes aside - the BBC are clearly going too far with their 'equal opportunities' bollocks. This following their decision to broadcast Women's SuperLeague which I've been told has had shockingly bad listening figures.

run that past me again?:lol::lol:

i said in the beginning breese or pringle at 7 and only mentiond muchall at the end to wind you up like.

if stokes is fit i would be very happy about that but would be tempted to bring him in at the expense of a bowler, say wood [due to the lots of overs he's gone through recently without much success] or harrison depending on his blisters.... since taunton is a featherbed and if there is bad weather due it is likely not to be anything other than a draw, in which case stokes will help us get batting points..

It should've said 'mocked' not nicked. Strangest 'Auto Correct' I've seen to date!

ah ok. i mocked you saying breese was a better batsman than muchall but then i picked him in the side as a spinner who can bat a bit rather than as a batsman.

I think we're looking a bit light in all departments at the moment. I like Richo both as a cricketer and a bloke but he's not a number 4 for me, I think he'd be more suited to 5 with a proven experienced batsman at 4, as per the Yorks and Sussex games.

Stokes is a massive miss, Arshad came in and did really well last season and although he hasn't let the side down so far, he's not the same player as Stokes. Stokes brings that little bit extra with his aggression and will to win, he's got the ability to change a game quickly.

The thing that's disappointed me the most this season is our catching, something like 16-18 catches have gone down, with maybe another 4-6 half chances. It means the bowlers are still creating chances even though they haven't been at their best. If those chances had been turned into wickets we might have been looking at a couple of wins instead of 4 draws. There's nothing worse for a bowler than to see catches put down, nobody drops them on purpose and nobody is more annoyed than the player who drops them, but wickets is all a bowler is worried about, a wicket gives a bowler a big lift and spurs him on, dropped catches in the Sussex game cost us 230 runs and the chance of a win.

Our bowling too looks light without Onions, Rushy is the senior bowler while bunny is missing, last year we had Thorp to come in if needed, so a lot is expected of Rushy now. Harrison and Wood have done well also, but both are still at the stage where injuries are likely to crop up sooner rather than later. If we have another bowler injury soon it wouldn't surprise me to see Thorp back short term, he's keeping himself fit and playing at weekends, they could do a lot worse.

agreed, wood looks worrying more like medium than fast atm, maybe just easing his way back from injury. harrison is making progress and we dont know how much of stokes we'll see even when he is back. with or without him i still think we're missing a genuine front line spin option, it isn't so highlighted with stokes as it gives us an extra strike bowler without losing any batting. harrison & arshad will be leant on heavily i think and hopefully can contiue to progress.

thorp was on commentary with marty in the t20 i believe, did anyone catch it?

Maybe an option to go with three frontline seamers then three spin bowling allrounders?

Stoneman
Jennings
Borth
Richardson
Mustard+
Colly*
Breese
Pringle
Arshad
Harrison
Rushworth
