Further Proof That Twenty20....

I rarely watch T20. It brings money into the game which is the only good thing, but the ECB saw the large amount of money India were making from the IPL and that wanker Giles Clarke wanted to tear up the county championship to host our own version. The bloke was blinkered - even got into bed (not literally) with that Stanford bloke who turned out to be a massive crook.

It's a passing fad. In 10 years time no one will care.

It's got nowt on a gritty, nail biting Test match or County game. Elaborate game of hit and hope.

Not even that long, the 'blast' is doomed to fail.

is a stupid pantomime game that's all about selling merchandise.

It's exactly the same as Scholes coming out of retirement

I don't like T20 but If he can play twenty over cricket, good luck to him. He will have done alright out of his career, but compare his wealth to that of Bardsley...

Definitely. Remember when Scholes was so pissed he couldn't play, and so fat he ruined his back and knees? Remember when young Paul developed DVT and was advised to stop all competitive sport? Remember when he never kicked a ball for 4 years and had a professional boxing match before deciding to come back? And then, of course, Scholesy decided only to play 5-a-side for Man United because he couldn't stand up to playing a full game of football......

Exactly the same.

Glad you agree

I played in the Harrogate Evening League for a lot of years. Used to be 18 x 8 ball overs with eight divisions and the top of the first was a very good standard with Test and County players playing in it regularly. We had Clayton Lambert playing for a couple of years. In one game the opening batsman against us was Martin Crowe.

Now it is T20 based and a lot of the clubs in the top divisions have left and now use the night for net practice. I think they were concerned that smash every ball for 6 approach was creeping in to the Saturday leagues. I don't like T20 at all nowadays.

Sounds to me that the bloke simply can't handle being away from the limelight. Daft TV shows, attempted boxing career and now a cricketing return when his body is shot to bits.

Paul Allott was talking about this last week and he basically said it was unlikely to happen.

Sounds like a PR exercise to sell tickets.

i like it at durham. relaxed atmosphere, very little bad language, players who give time to youngsters. very reasonably priced as well

Thank god someone said it! Sat here watching IPL and despite the stars the standard is dirt poor.

Total rubbish

Standard is excellent watching world class players hitting the ball out of the park is what people want to watch whether you like it or not.

Sick of this shit that people don't like seeing that, of course they do.

Years before 20/20 was even thought off cricket fans have always preferred watching a Botham or Viv Richards hit the ball out of the park, then a test match in Asia where a team gets 600/3 over 3 days.

Botham or Boycott who did the fans come to watch?

It's got nowt on a gritty, nail biting Test match or County game. Elaborate game of hit and hope.

That must be why nobody watches county championship matches and 20/20 games are packed.

20/20 has saved some counties from going out of business.

Don't get me wrong don't want 20/20 to take over but certainly room for both formats in the calendar if done right.

.

piffle, clearly some do [non cricket fans i'd suggest] but whist the standard is high actually watching it is dire, i have tried to watch it but it is a joke, watching the batsman spin round on his heels and fall over trying to smash the cover off the ball and miss by a mile

You've just answered it there. No mention of highly skilled bowling, just hitting.

Cricket is supposed to be the battle of bat v ball, T20 is about who can hit the ball furthest.

Been some outstanding bowling in the IPL tbh....not from some of the overpaid big guns it has to be said mind.
