There were originally 2 cricket clubs in Chilton-Moor and Colliery. Moor certainly played on the road leading to the Country Club- maybe the housing development is where the Colliery club played.

I played at Chilton Moor a few times but not at Chilton "Colliery", I came across this, could the Colliery and Moor be one and the same?

"Cricket was established at Chilton Moor in 1877 after a group of boys were caught playing without permission at the clubs present field. Their parents walked to Seaham Harbour to ask agents for the Londonderry Collieries to use the land for cricket.A club was formed as Colliery Row CC and it later linked up with the Chilton Moor Choir Team with the new name of Chilton Moor - one of three private teams in the Durham Coast League."

Chiltin Moors old ground is still an empty field behind the nursery, the nursery used to be the bar for the last few seasons they still had a club.

There's a single tree growing in the middle of what would have been the square.

Had always assumed this was the site due to size and shape of land and thr fact that the nursery looks like an old club house.

Never played or spectated there. Did they take over/move to wearmouth in late 90s or have i imagined this. Was at whitburn at time and remember s few wearmouth lads coming to us

Simple. If they are good enough OK. But problem now is that shit players are taking money out of clubs that can not afford it. Started when test players did not or could not pro in local league cricket. I've never been bothered about good players being paid whether pros or whatever. Its the poor ones who have ruined local leagues and clubs are being held to ransom by these useless players.

No players should be payed at local level, any money a club makes should be put back into the club for improvements of ground or general club development.

I hear about players getting payed at clubs like Houghton, crazy if you ask me. I mean what are these teams hoping to gain?

Can't see that like. Would be surprised if anyone in NEDL was paying players but I might be wrong. Houghton appear to be getting back on their feet after a difficult few years. Doubt they would pee money up a wall like that.

Dinnar like must cost a pretty penny to keep @matt_catchpennie playing for them
@CraigyLee nevermind my free sausage rolls and a half a pint of coke per match.... How much to get you back is the big question?

A further thinly veiled, false and online accusation aimed at Houghton despite us never having published anything derogatory about any other club.

The committee at Houghton have worked damned bloody hard to try and restore the reputation of the club, sorting out its finances, its squad and, long term, its junior set up.

We've falsely been said to have spread rumours about other clubs, imitating other clubs and now paying players (though it's quite clearly another thinly veiled dig).

We are fairly comfortable about the professional ethics at our club these days and have done our very best to be welcoming and friendly with all clubs we have come up against, though, like every club, we can't control or monitor the words or actions of any individual player when they're merely talking to friends or former team mates.

We haven't officially replied to any online childishness but, having tried to deal with this in the right way by having a courteous conversation with an opposition club's official, I think its time to use our right to reply.

This time last year there were false rumours doing the rounds about our club ceasing to exist, which we dealt with as well as we could and without any mud slinging.

We'll carry on trying to get the ship onto steady waters, without paying players as the club did in the past and also without getting involved in any online rubbish.

When we have the cash to pay Lara and Warne out of retirement I'll be the first to post it up.

Aye thats the one mate

Did you play in that league at the time?
No but know Norman well. Not convinced he was on payroll but he was certainly playing at a level below what he should have been.

Well I was told they were, sorry if I've caused offence, like I said paying any player at local level is mad.

Good luck to Houghton for the season.

Good man. Far too much has been made of a (non) issue. I echo the Houghton comment, the club seems to have made great strides over the past 18 months.

I think the way you guys have come back from the brink is to be commended and the way you guys are pushing on and i hope you have a good season.

The NEDL has some mischief makers i think as rumours of clubs paying players always comes up - best not to let them get to you tbh.

Good luck for the rest of the season(but not against us ;-) )

It would not be particuarly healthy to have an unecessery distrust between the two clubs. I would imagine those with any link to Houghton are in a minority now at our club. I was never there but played there with teachers and the two lads who were our links were always very welcoming.

Hubba and Paul still play for the 1sts. Still scoring runs. Mainly in boundaries mind... Tried to get Gazza back but no luck unfortunately.

Glad that the club has been well represented, just like every other club we just want to enjoy our cricket, play it in the right spirit and have a few drinks after, hopefully we win in the process, on a personal level I have nothing but praise for any club managing to move forward and even more so for clubs managing to turn out teams every week. People taking about paying players is fine in my opinion if clubs can afford to, and have the right structure to do so. Foolish if you start paying players and it's at the expense of improving the club in the long run.

There is plenty of models of clubs out there who have gone about it the right way, and certainly your club is one of them.
