Just to let you know about some of the exciting events which will be taking place during 2014 as part of Gordon Muchall and Gareth Breese's joint Benefit Year, which has been kindly awarded by Durham County Cricket Club.

To provide you with a little bit of background, Gordon and Gareth have been awarded a joint Benefit Year in 2014 for each serving for more than ten years with Durham County Cricket Club. During their time with the Club they have both contributed to its success, and are proud to have made claim to the Friends Provident Trophy and no less than three County Championship titles.

Throughout 2014, the Benefit Committee will be hosting a series of events to raise funds for their chosen charities; North East Autism Society and North East MacMillan.

Also, we have many exciting sponsorship and advertising opportunities which you may wish to consider; starting with an A4 colour advert in our annual benefit year brochure for only £200.

If you would like further information regarding any of the events or opportunities, or regarding the benefit year generally, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Thank you!

Maybe I'm being thick, but you say that your gonna "let you know about some of the exciting events which will be taking place during 2014 as part of Gordon Muchall and Gareth Breese's joint Benefit Year" and then don't mention a single one. Hope the lads are banking on their benefit raking in too much money
;)

Greavsie - apologies there was no detail on the events we are hosting. I tried to do this via website links and/or uploaded attachments, however, as we are new users of the forum we do not have the permissions to do so. I will get an event schedule posted later today, thanks!

Out of interest, how much does a standard county player earn a year?

Do they still need benefit years?

I'm not being a dick, just wondering

The salary of a professional county cricketer has many variables. It could be anywhere between £20k and £100k.

The Durham squad has been reduced considerably over the winter and as a result both Gareth and Gordon's contract have been reduce to one day contracts. However, the benefit year isn't solely about the players and we are also raising funds for local charity. Gareth has chosen MacMillan Cancer Support North East, as his family suffered a bereavement to cancer recently. Gordon is supporting North East Autism Society, as his son was diagnosed with the condition last year. Both Gareth and Gordon are doing a zip slide off the Stadium of Light tomorrow which is in aide of the football clubs foundation.

Hope this helps.[DOUBLEPOST=1396602760][/DOUBLEPOST]
Did Benks ever get a benefit season?

If anyone deserved one it was him.

I agree Aidan11. Benks was a great guy and player for Durham. I'm sure he will make a fantastic coach at Hampshire and we all wish him well.

Benks did not get a benefit season. I dare say that if he remained at the club he would of had one next season.
