He can't get carried away by the lure of Wembley. He's trying to build something here, and a huge part of that relies on us being in the top flight.

We can't prioritise everything. He was right to rest key players yesterday, the FA Cup right now is a luxury we cannot afford.

It's too early in Poyet's tenure to chase silverware, but the fact that we're even talking about it - this season of all seasons - should give those laying into him pause for reflection.

We've had the best cup runs in decades. If you let cups be the reason you turn on Poyet, you need to have a word with yourself.

Here's to the real battle.

Bravo.... Well said!

No one is turning on anyone. He made an error in judgement. He can be openly debated. Am not being funny but if players need rests with 2 games in 2 weeks then we are fucked.

Not turning on him at all, but that team selection was a load of shit. "The real battle" - chasing another relegation battle next season - would have been helped substantially by doing over Hull yesterday, anyway.

Also, that post reads like a Sun editorial. ;)

I'd think it was more injuries and suspensions he's worried about rather than resting them. It was largely the team that played Southampton.I don't think he made any errors of judgement, the players on the field were mostly shite and should take the blame.

Looking in from the outside he ballsed up. There was a very good chance that you could have drawn Sheffield Utd and a win against them would have almost guaranteed you Europa League football. Whether that competition could become a hindrance or not at least he could have dangled it as a carrot to attract better players.

I really hope you lot turn against him as he could turn you into something decent given time.

The fact is we had better, more experienced players to use with no other game for another week. We never used them and looked disjointed and unstructured. That is Poyet's fault and thats prety absolute TBH.

We've had two amazing cup runs and form that would see us comfortably mid table if he'd been in charge from the beginning.

Yes yesterday was a massive mistake and I'm sure he'd admit that but this is his first top flight job. There's bound to one or two mistakes while he's still cutting his teeth.

I've never ever been more confident while safc are in a relatively perilous position.

Get your tickets out ladies and gents, the conductor is getting on the Gus Bus.

He sent the message out to the players he wasn't really bothered about the game, can't blame the players if that attitude transcended onto them.

He got it wrong yesterday, pure and simple. As good as Gus has been for us so far he's not immune from criticism.

Debate is fine, but many on this board are turning on him. Some of the stuff posted on here since the final whistle has been vicious.

Really? Aside from a few people who I'd always assumed were Mag WUMs, I've not really seen much of that.

:D

Survival will ultimately help our chances of winning trophies in the years to come. It's not sure survival we're chasing, it's the chance for Poyet to have a proper go at this.

Havnt seen much of that. However, I would go as far as pretty disgraceful in terms of his lack of wanting to win that game yday. We had 6 players who would have made a difference and he chose not to use them. We have another week before out next game, nothing to look forward too etc.

Winning breeds confidence, which would help our run in. Getting smashed 3-0 off a shite Hull side certianly wont help.

Mistakes aside there was very little between the 2 sides. For the third time this season individual fuck-ups from the players has cost us any positive result. (Although i blame the ref for Catt's sending off earlier in the season).

Some of the overly negative reactions on here have surprised me tbh, don't know why mind.[DOUBLEPOST=1394441537][/DOUBLEPOST]

Was pretty tight for 50-60 minutes then he brought our best 2 attacking players on. Not sure why you suggest he didn't want to win it like.

Too true,i previously thought 37 points were needed,now i can't see W brom,Norwich Cardiff or Fulham bettering 32.

Because he started the game with 6 better players ont he bench or not playing. Pretty simple to understand really.

There were eleven professional footballers on the pitch, there to do their job. I agree Poyet isn't immune from criticism, but he can't be blamed for lapses like we saw from O'Shea and Cattermole, and some downright shit from Dossena,Fletcher,Larsson and Scocco. These highly paid players have got to get their heads in the right place on the pitch, there is only so much that can be done in the dressing room.

Personally, I believe yesterday was a real missed opportunity. I'm not that arsed about wembley, but a victory would have helped lift the players after last weeks disappointment.

Poyet has done an amazing job and staying in the premier league needs to take priority; but I can't help but feel that we could regret yesterday. Rather then being positive, there's sadly a little bit of negativity sneaking in.
