Stokes will bat 6, with a keeper at 7. Broad and Borthwick (probably) are superb at 8 and 9 (other way round). They won't pick Woakes as he adds nowt to the batting, and is a yard too slow with the ball.

Aye. Don't get me wrong, he isn't a bad cricketer. But he is an average number 7 bat, and a 4th seamer. Stokes is a good 6 and potentially a third seamer

He bowls at sub 70 mph man, he's what you might call fast medium in 1930, with the wicky standing up at the stumps.

His strength is he plays for Warwickshire and Giles is a selector and will most likely be coach. The fact that he's the present Lion's capt also implies that he has favour with the selectors.
