I have to say that I'm really not overly happy with Collingwood. Since he has come back it is my opinion that he has has been very vocal behind the scenes and very influential in decisions that have proven to be unpopular with a lot of the Durham membership. As a consequence it is also my opinion that Collingwood is on course to make himself as unpopular as Harmison became at Durham, particularly if we get relegated and Paul is nowhere to be seen.Interesting Colly doing quite a few interviews about his new temp role with England with all kinds of media outlets, i get the feeling that if it goes reasonably well over the next 6 weeks, if he gets half a chance of a permanent job in the coaching set up he will be off.
What has suprised me since the Ashes debacle is the unsubtle way the Collingwood camp have campaigned for him to be part of the new set up. This has been led by Michael Vaughan who is not just his mate but also represented by the same management company. Iam sure Vaughan would not have been so vocal in the media and on social media if Colly was not ready to make the move sooner rather than later.I have to say that I'm really not overly happy with Collingwood. If you are going to lay down a marker at an organisation and shake it up then you have an obligation and duty too see it through. What you dont do is tip it upside down and leave.
The Benkenstein situation stinks to high heaven IMHO and will forever hang like a cloud over the cricket club. We could have done with Dale here next season, not at f***ing Hampshire. Durham I'm sure will rue the day they let Dale walk away. Given the way MDV has handled his batting coach responsibilities at Australia we could have done with him here as well. It seemed to me that Michael walked away under a bit of a cloud but the bloke had too much class to say very much. I could tell from speaking with him that he was a bit hurt about how his time ended. Same with Benks.
Both Michael and Dale were not only world class cricketers but also world class people. Straight as an arrow. No games, no manipulation, just good people.
Given the choice between a Benks/MDV camp or a Collingwood camp I would not choose the latter.
It'll be interesting too see how the Durham/England/Hampshire/Australia stories unfold. I hope they unfold well for Dale and Michael but I fear they wont for Durham - if Collingwood pisses off.
My loyalties lie first and foremost with Durham not England. At this present time - so should Collingwood's.
I think that Benkenstein wanted someone younger to have the job. There was no long term future in a mid 30s cricketer having it although Mustard was always a reluctant captain I thought. just had a reply to an e-mail I sent Dale wishing him the best of luck. He seems happy enough now and looking forward to his challenge ahead. I'll keep an eye on how Hampshire fayre although from memory, someone might correct me, the role he has down there this year is not the same as the one he will have next year. What has suprised me since the Ashes debacle is the unsubtle way the Collingwood camp have campaigned for him to be part of the new set up. What Colly has achieved over the past 18 months leading Durham has been fantastic and last seasons championship win is the the most outstanding of the three championship wins.
I just get the feeling in footballing terms he is looking to move on while his stock is high, where as his reputation is so good within English cricket even if Durham struggle this season it will not effect Collys future to much as a coach.
As far as Benks is concerned i think he gave up the captaincy to quickly, it was probably ok when Smith and Mustard where captains, but when Colly took over his influence must have diminished as Collys grew and in the end realized he had no future at Durham.
Guess it all makes sense why KP got the boot. Nothing to do with trust if this is true ,Flower may have even recommended Moores just to end KPIs expected to be announced as the new England cricket coach very soon so I have heard.May be unfinished business from 5 years ago.A wise choice (IMO)
Looking at Hampshires squad i think he has a decent chance of achieving things with them, i fancy them to get promoted in the championship especially if Benks decides to play some 4 day cricket. Be interesting to see if Smith can hold a place down in their middle order, there batting looks strong if Benks is available.I think that Benkenstein wanted someone younger to have the job. Happy to stick with what I posted. Not keen on collingwood at all.Absolute rubbish, what Collingwood did last year was remarkable, and couldn't possibly of been replicated without him.
Collingwood is a fantastic cricketer and leader, he doesn't owe Durham anything, and the changes made last year by him were 1oo% correct and the results prove it. No coincidence that Stokes and Borthwick both called up this year.
If he does go to England why on earth would any Durham fan resent it? Should be extremely proud that from someone from the area is so well thought of at that level. Hope he goes all the way.[DOUBLEPOST=1392795197][/DOUBLEPOST]

That sir is a very good comment and a one that goes to the heart of the issue here. IMHO and on more than one occasion the management at Durham ie the Board has been very weak and indecisive.I can see both the above points of view-strong characters will divide opinions and Colly is a strong character. The conflict between Benks and Colly's roles could have been resolved with strong management which Durham don't provide. Leech should have displayed some firm decision making in this incident imo and he didn't.
