Simon Wildes test team

Think Stokes at 6 means you have to a bowlers who can bat rather than the best bowlers in the team. But I would think that team will not be that far from the mark come the 1st test of the summer.

Like that side, just wish we could find a replacement for Prior. Bairstow is awful, and although Butler may not be completely ready, I would stick him in there.

COOK (C)
ROBSON
BELL (VC)
ROOT B
TAYLOR
BALLANCE
STOKES B
BUTTLER (WK)
BROAD B
ANDERSON/ONIONS B
FINN B

Quite like that, although I'm not too sure on Badger, as much as I want him to succeed.

Not just yet.
If they are really sweet on Borthwick as a genuine test player they should bat him in the top 6 and use his bowling as a bonus, if he scores runs he will bowl with a lot more confidence, like you as a front line bowler i don't think he is ready.

This. It'll be back to them days before long.

No chance,

10 tests was just too much for this group.

Everyone forgets if it wasn;t for the World Cup then we would have held the ashes for another 2 years after a 3-0 whitewash in the summer, and Harris and Johnson and co would be nowhere near.

Was an awful tour but we won the ashes last summer.

I want Morgan in there for me if he shows any form, was dropped to early after the Pakistan tour and Root hasn't impressed me, they share similar records in test cricket.

Root is probably worth sticking with but he isn't a shoe in by any means.

By the way, George Dobell, canny journo at cric info, he knows Trott, and he has been hinting that he may be back for the summer.

Reason I have Ali in there I think England need to follow South Africa's example, for the main part they have accepted they don't have a front line spinner and have played Robin Peterson, who is handy with ball and can bat.

England need to get back to posting big first innings totals and then slowly can play a more attacking side. This Ali is a class batsmen and more than handy with the ball.

I'd give Root a break myself, but if he scores a hatful for Yorkshire then he will probably be in. We need someone like Morgan in IMO.

I'd have Taylor about the squad too and Buttler if he can score runs for Lanc early on

Would be a massive call on whether to pick Trott. Undoubtedly he is in our best 11 in the right frame of mind, but I said at the time, I would be more than a bit peeved if he is back raring to go in cool spring conditions against bowling attacks known to struggle in England!

Please excuse my ignorance, and I know it far from black and white, but I just can't see how someone can go from "rock bottom" when his country needs him most, back to being in "tip top shape within a matter of months. I heard a few sarcy comments saying he was trying to protect his healthy average, if that is the case he can clear off.

Come on mate Jesus.

Depression isn't anything to do with where he is playing or what he does for a living, can hit you for no reason at any point.

He could be a milkman, mechanic or a banker, it is irrelevant.

Aye, it's a good point. Basically what Durham did, although it's a different stage batting up the order for England to what it is doing it for Durham.

The other thing England may look to do this summer - which wouldn't bother me if they did - would be to prepare pitches that don't turn at all, that would for the short term mean they don't have to worry about the spinner as much. They could just as we'll use someone as an occasional spinner.

Agreed that probably came across very badly. I just don't know if it is fair to say here you go mate, have the number 3 slot back, in much "easier" conditions just months after coming home from a tour in an absolute mess.

Took a lot more courage to admit he had a problem and all the attention that brought, wouldn't of helped him or the team staying out there.

People get caught up planning for long term IMO, you just have to judge it series by series and pick the best side to win that match. The Aussies this series for example, very old side but the best they had available.

If Trott has improved his mental health then he is worth a go this summer, get these 2 series won. Whether he ever tours again is irrelevant in my opinon.

On a different note this Robson should be a certainty, looks a class act. Not sure how I feel about a lad from Sydney opening for England to be honest though.

Morgan has played 2 first class games in a year. Great talent but needs to score some 4 day runs
