Cattermol to Stoke....

If we sell Cattermole and buy Bridcutt, we've strengthened, IMO. Doing so at net profit with a reduced wage bill would be excellent business.

Poyet isn't going to change his system any time soon (nor should he) and Cattermole doesn't fit well into it.

It's true that he is a more adventurous passer than given credit for, but he is a square peg in a round hole just in front of the back four - it restricts his strengths, which at his best involves covering a lot of ground all over the pitch, and highlights his weaknesses - ie the fact that he simply isnt as consistent a passer as Ki or Colback. Nor do I think he has the composure to play in that position when teams are pressing us - see his Aston Villa performance, for example. Add in that you lose him for quite a few games a season through injury and suspension, and he was only ever going to be a stop gap in the position he is playing.

Pushing him higher up the pitch would be one option, but I would prefer Ki and Colback there, and the gap between our midfield and our centre forward is already too big without relying on Cattermole's ability to get forward.

Poyet clearly knows all about Bridcutt's ability to make his system work, so I don't see a downside in all honesty.

would free up a MASSIVE amount of wages - i remember he came out and said every move hes doubled his wages he was on 15k at boro so 30k at wigan....60 k at us and hes signed a new contract in his time here as well so over 60k a week

Totally disagree with the first point. Excellent at breaking up play, great work rate, capable of keeping possession with short quick passes, and despite what people say, he does have a decent range of passing.

On the second point, maybe, but only real top class players will regularly control games.

For where we are and where we're trying to get to, Cattermole is a very good player.

For where we are..... you mean perennial relegation battlers because we have had CM's of the ilk of Lee Cattermole?

For where we are trying to get to.... do you seriously, without any blinkers on if you can possibly manage that, think that Lee Cattermole would get a game for Everton, Newcastle or even Southampton now (not to mention the likes of Swansea or West Brom as well). We have been spending similar on wages in the last 3 or so years as Everton and Newcastle and their CM's are a class above Lee Cattermole.

We've had a lot worse players than him in that period

That's the problem.. One of our longer serving players (2nd behind bardsley?) and should have the fans behind him not against him. Like Johnson a confidence player and ironically, does better with the fans behind him.
Don't get me wrong like the sound of this britcutt but selling catts now would be a big mistake

And what have we been achieving whilst these great servants have been at the club? The massive plus point of getting rid of the likes of Cattermole is that its another of the big heads that rule the dressing room gone. The culture is wrong. Comments have been made by ex pros about the drinking culture at the club for years, and the sooner we get rid of that culture the better (some players such as Fletcher or Bardsley may well benefit if some of their "pals" are removed from influencing them).

Good post, he's a crowd pleaser no doubt about that, but his limitations are palpable, when he's on he's on, but they're few and far between now - alas.
