Cattermol to Stoke....

Fireball - I wasn't calling those players rejects - they are almost Stoke legends in the modern game - I was quoting the earlier post of Old Sailor Man.
One thing about Cattermole - you know that he was on the pitch. I went to Palace on saturday to say goodbye to Tony and Stoke were awful - three or four players were invisible - I'm sure that Cattermole would at least been noticed

Laughable this thread like.

Some people must genuinely hate him.

Other than Ki he's our best midfielder. Bridcutt could be the answer but it's a huge ask.

selling him to a rival would be stupid and whilst I trust Gus, he doesnt control the money. We've already bid for Briductt so selling Cattermole can't be connected to bringing him in.

Yeah we'll probably end up paying 5-6m on a championship player with no premier league experience.

That's fine when you're safe but we're in a relegation battle and this club is a MASSIVE step up to playing for Brighton under no pressure in the Championship.

I don't disagree with some of the criticisms of Cattermole, but I simply don't understand the argument that seems to go, "I wish he was better than he is so we'll be a better side if we sell him."

Strange one. Sometimes he looks a decent player and others poor. Given his inconsistency and injury/disciplinary records allied to his likely wages is be tempted to get rid. The real challenge then becomes finding someone better.

This happening then

Any proof?

I like Cattermole but if it's £5m it wouldn't be that bad a deal.

Only worth it if we can bring someone in who can improve the team both in the short and long term. Feel like if we did it it would leave us horribly exposed personally. Hopefully this bridcutt lad is good enough or we can use the money to bring in more attacking options.

Its simple enough, his passing is ok, but limited to one foot.

so is colbacks (as an arbitrary example), but cattermole lacks the awareness and first touch of colback, hence the villa debacle in poyets style, and the amount of red cards in the past where he takes a poor first touch and dives in to try and make amends.

He can close down play decently, although is now tainted by his reputation leading to more situations where he is booked early as compared to someone like tiote, and becomes utterly innefective.

all in all, a decent player, but no longer suited to our style, and certainly not worth 5 million plus his current (supposed) wages. Especially combined with his injury record

Basically Catts can't pass, the system dictates that the midfield passes...

Well that's just not true. IMO the best stuff that we played under Bruce was when Cattermole, Henderson and Malbranque were in the midfield and regularly playing possession football with short, quick passes between them.

Sadly it's very often by the ref.

yep, we're 19th in a mini-league with 10 teams in it so we shouldn't be selling at this point especially to a rival; think we should bring Bridcutt in and play Catts further up.

Don't think so - just a lot don't rate him & consider him a liability that has not learnt to control himself over time

Don't rate him in the context of what though? He's one of our best two midfielders and capable of controlling games in the Premier League on his day.

he could though play further up - Bridcutt in front of the back 4 with him and Ki more advanced.
