Cattermol to Stoke....

Poyets frustration regards Cattermoles lack of awareness at the weekend plus replacing him often recently suggests he is less than impressed.
Exactly. "lack of awareness", that sums up Catts. Hangs onto the ball just that couple of seconds too long, not realising he's getting closed down, then goes haring off mistiming tackles trying to win the ball back

Really not sure about this one. One week I'm glad he's with us and the next I want to kick him out the door myself. Can be so important and then a complete liability.

Yep I feel the same ...but overall I think he is more likely to let us down than do us good. Played great at Fulham but they are one of the poorest teams in the league so we should expect him to have an influence.
Against another poor side though ie Villa, he was awful.

Fotr all of his battling qualities he just isnt technically good enough, particularly for the style of football Poyet wants to play.

We need to buy Bridcutt first (even though I have no idea I'd he's any good) as otherwise Brighton know we have the money from catts sale and will hike up the price

Any closer to establishing the veracity of one tweet or is it another 20 pages of the FM lads lapping up 5 million and the rest realising his attributes (and drawbacks) and generally wanting him to stay?

Sunderland rejects F.C.

in their time they've had:

Lawrence
Whitehead
Delap
Sorensen
Jones
Higginbotham (when they bought him back)

and now Cattermole  he won't be missed here, easily replaceable.

All the above, perhaps with the exception of Jones, have been great servants to Stoke and have played a major part in us getting promoted.

As for Cattermole - I wouldn't want him because of his injury record and disciplinary record BUT if these can be sorted out - and you have to have the hope that they can - for me he would be a bargain for £5 - his enthusiasm, leadership and commitment in midfield is just what we need to galvinise us. As an opposition player at Stoke last season he controlled part of the game . There was an incident when oneyour players was injured and Catermole TOLD a Stoke player to kick the ball out - the Stoke player looked a bit perplexed but did as he was told.
If the deal goes ahead only time will tell -I would be happy to take a chance

Cattermole will not be a Sunderland reject... he's one of our best players. Miles better than Whitehead or Lawrence... and miles better than any Stoke midfielder.

And Sorensen was hardly a reject

Good post. On his day Cattermole is a very decent Premier League player, he just needs to sort his head out.

People on here quick to criticise cattermole and wish him goodbye but again short memories.
Play golf with him and he's a top lad.. People forgetting that he's one of our longer serving players and actually cares for the club
Still got his best years ahead of him IMO

His lack of pace gets him into trouble time after time, his temper aswell, I don't think any will improve with age. His good games are too far and few between, if and its a big if we sign Bridcutt to replace him I suspect Poyet will have more faith in him than Cattermole. At the minute he is like a rabbit in headlights, backing off, scared to tackle and knows it won't take a lot for him to get the crowd against him, I'm surprised he lasted so long on Saturday. Our problem isn't selling Cattermole our problem is how poor our midfield is even with him in it and he doesn't really make that much difference tbh.

He contributes more than Latsson, Cattermole and Gardner. Therefore we are weaker for him leaving.
selling him to a rival would be stupid and whilst I trust Gus, he doesnt control the money. We've already bid for Briductt so selling Cattermole can't be connected to bringing him in.

That side would beat us.

I honestly don't get all the stick Cattermole gets.

Wholehearted player who on his day is capable of controlling games. Yes, he's got limitations such as dwelling on the ball too long now and again but at the end of the day that's why he plays for us rather than a top team.

There's a decent size list of players who I'd rather see out of the door before Catts. Especially when the player who looks like is going to be brought in as the replacement is far from proven.
